Finally, Liz, you have stopped suffering today.
Farewell to Paradise. I am sure Richard is waiting for you.

Oh I am so sorry. I loved Elizabeth Taylor and thought her the actress of my lifetime. I know there is no paradise, no hell, no anything, but you are indeed at rest. Your avid admirer, Tod

This is the first adult movie I ever saw, at age five. I remember that my mother really really wanted to see it the moment that she knew it was playing. My brother was in school, but I hadn't started school yet, so I think she just took me with her one afternoon since a babysitter was out of the question. I understood absolutely nothing about the plot, but to this day I remember how unpleasant I found those two people arguing all the time and how strange it was for the actress to sit around in her underwear so much.

My mom took me to "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?" under similar circumstances

Ha! Same here. I know I've told this story before but ................
My grandmother took me & my brother to that movie. When it was over, she was in a state of outrage. (she did stay through the whole feature, though. ;D)
I was totally confused. What was wrong? Why was she upset? The only thing I really remember from the movie is when Big Mama is talking to Liz and says "Whenever anything is wrong in a marriage, I find the trouble is right here." as she pounds the bed. All I could think was, "? - That furniture looks all right to me."

Yes. I'm old enough for such movies, but not sufficiently mature yet even.

tod, like auntie I'm not really sorry, because Liz had been in a terrible state for quite some years.
lagatta has an interest in pushing the glamour quotient for short brunettes with blue eyes... (though like bixa, I have been letting the silvers grow out).

One of the French channels is showing Cat on a Hot Tin Roof tonight, so I am getting to see the things I did not understand. In the dubbed version, Big Daddy is called Papa Chéri.
Just past midnight, another channel has decided to show Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? but I fear that I must give it a miss.
Today's French media was very annoyed with the American media for giving E.T. short shrift in the news.

Ms. Taylor had a big fine above the fold front page photo with her obit in the NYTimes. That's what passes for news around this house, and I can't remember another entertainment person getting that treatment. Especially with quite a few other noteworthy things happening in the world.
I saw a photo of her maybe 1998 when her hair was just starting to grow back after chemo, boy cut and pure white; with those lovely eyes and her sweet smile she was stunning.

This sort of death in France means 4 to 6 FULL pages of articles on the person in a newspaper like Libération, as well as a full page photo on page 1. (The headline was "Queen Elizabeth.")

I don't read French papers, but saw on the net that French media had dedicated lots of space to her. One quote that struck me was our Culture minister saying she was known for her "emerald eyes". Didn't the guy ever see a colour movie with her or a photograph?

I think the main problem is 60 years of retouched photos. They were photoshopping her eyes before Photoshop was ever invented. I have seen them every imaginable color in magazines except red, just because she never got to play Satan's mistress in a movie.

She was known for having dark blue/violet eyes.

In Time magazine, the principal photo of her made it look like her eyes were green. Most of the other photos were B&W.
