Oh damn, why oh why did it have to happen on the day you were leaving! If it's any consolation, Paris was wounded twice this week. First the Elysée-Montmartre burned down. This is the dance hall where the French Cancan was invented and which served as the setting of many Toulouse-Lautrec paintings. Yesterday, part of the very atmospheric Châlet des Iles in the Bois de Boulogne burned down, too. The diners had to be evacuated by boat since it is on an island.

Can't the flight be postponed? Or caught from another city?

Well....the flight was rescheduled but arriving almost two whole days later. I was able to bitch my way over to another airline and get to CDG on Saturday morning via Delta. We had to eat our hotel fee in Troyes and we were not able to get a day's rate break with our rental company. Although, we were able to extend an extra day with American Airlines. So, we'll have an extra day in Paris, but it did cost us extra ( because of hotel, time off, etc. ). The thing that pissed me off the most was that they send me a recorded message to tell me the flight was cancelled.

Elysée Montmartre: Cleaning woman switched on lights when arriving. Sparks! Fireworks! Chalet des Iles: no news yet.

Well, she's the one who called the firemen. Everybody knew that the place was decrepit, but the total renovation wasn't planned until.... many months from now.
The building is still holding together because it has a steel frame built by a certain Gustave Eiffel.

Can we hope that you have changed continents by now? We made it! We landed yesterday about 6 AM. Picked up the rental and drove over to Verdun then we proceeded to Metz. Going to go run around Metz all day then head over to Nancy for two nights. Got a great nights sleep and ready to rock and roll today! Already found a Steinhoff near the cathedral. ;D

Strasbourg is definitely a bigger city...much more hustle and bustle. We had a great meal last night and about to go exploring today. Tomorrow we'll hit Germany and Friday the Wine Route to Colmar and back up the Route des Cretes.

I do know that it is a bit early in the season to see spring in its full splendor in the east of France, but since I like it any time of year, I hope that you do, too.

Got rain for the first time yesterday. It was a bit chilly as well, but we enjoyed our stroll around Strasbourg. Off to Germany today...buying some sandwiches to a picnic, and driving to Freudenstadt. We decided that driving to Freiburg and back was a bit of a haul.
Bixa,
The camera has been clicking away!

I made it back to the U.S. safe and sound (even though we were delayed and didn't arrive until 2 AM on the 6th). I'll start a new thread with a trip report and pics this weekend (gonna try out Photbucket for hosting).

Great. Glad to know you're not in jail or something (you know, with the famous French Fashion Police and other annoyances...).
