This has to be seen to be believed, and even then you'll be rubbing your eyes with disbelief. Beautiful, graceful, & mind-boggling ~~

There is still a very popular variety show on French television that regularly presents acts like that. All of the most incredible performances are always from China, Russia and Ukraine, which seem to be the only countries which still take such things seriously. Most of the cabaret acts in Paris (Lido, Moulin Rouge...) are also imported from those countries.

What really gets me about that particular performance is that the ballerina is the product of two very strenuous disciplines, and mastering either of those would have been phenomenal enough.
Do you suppose that the performers come from those countries because there is still a strong tradition of sending children off to train, or because there are entire families of performers passing their art down?

I think that they remain very much admired disciplines in those countries, and since those countries also have a high population, they are bound to produce enough performers, even for export.
