It looks like Adenuric is available in the US -- www.drugs.com/uk/adenuric.html
I just checked my own pills and they are 80mg, so I am actually only taking 40mg a day now. And it should be pointed out that I am "abusing" all of the food and drink items that one is supposed to avoid in case of gout. It is magic.

Thank you K2. That's very useful information for us to follow up with to avoid another flare up. T does take Allopurinol 300 mg. daily but, clearly, as in your case, it is not as effective to ward off one of these episodes.
The medication for the pain during an episode that he has prescribed is called Colchicine 0.6 mg. and when I researched it I found that it's a different medication all together from the Colchimax that you take. It does not contain opium and is not especially effective for the pain.
It does share the side effect of diarrhea.
And so, we have called his physician to explore the possibility of using the medications that you so graciously recommended.
I will add that the cost of the Colchicine was $99.00 USD even with insurance. There is a generic alternative Colcrys that was available for $45.00 so we went with that.
Also, because of some residual symptoms that have been chronic pain (neuropathy in both hands and feet) from his Guillian Barre illness in 2016, it is a bit more complicated medical scenario going on here.

The list price of Colchimax if one has no health coverage in France is 4.93€ for a box of 20. Strangely enough, a box of Adenuric for a month costs 25€ if you have to pay. I see that mine is made in Luxembourg under a Japanese licence.

Is it possible for someone resident of a country with no drug insurance to buy it for Before Bernie's presidential bid, he'd already organised busloads of Vermonters to buy medication somewhere nearby in Québec. Québec has pharmacare, but I don't think drug coverage is as good elsewhere. Burlington is very close to Québec - the other end of Lake Champlain.

Thanks for posting that Bixa.
I'm afraid that like Kerouac, T would not adhere to that if he could take medication to ward off an incident. He is currently abstaining from alcohol but we'll see how long that lasts. I'm not going to get into a power struggle with him about it if and when he decides to imbibe.

Although I do not have gout, perhaps some of you sufferers will enjoy (if that's the right word) this quote I just found ~
"This is the kind of pain where you limp toward the bathroom calling out for pets that died in your youth.”
Jim Harrison in his essay on gout, One Foot in the Grave, in the book "The Raw & the Cooked".

I used to get it again and again but some 10 years ago it stopped and has never returned.
The worst time was gout with food poisoning. Getting to the toilet in agony was awful.

After two sessions, I know how gout feels, and I will do anything to prevent it. The daily pill is definitely working because my uric acid levels are lower than they have been in years.

Gratefully my husband hasn't had a flare up in quite some time now. He thought he felt the early symptoms a couple of weeks ago but it was his neuropathy in his foot that was the result of doing too much physically the day before while moving a bunch of furniture around.

One friend got his first gout attack when on holiday in Argentina. Since it was a pleasure trip, copious red wine and red meat for lunch and supper.
I don't think it ever returned.

I was diagnosed with gout after a few episodes of pain in my right big toe...not as agonising as some of you have had but enough to send me to the GP.. Then in 2001 that foot was run over by a truck, which skidded to a halt resting on the foot...no fractures but all the toes got squished out of shape and place. As it healed I massaged the toes back into what I felt was the right alignment. I haven't had a whisper of gout ever since. ( Do not try this at home, you need a trained professional truck driver to park a truck on your foot)

After my two bouts of gout, I was extremely wary of any negative sensations in my toes. A few times, I felt that something might be starting, but I wiggled my toes as hard as possible and would press them and rub them vigourously when at home since I had read that gout was caused by uric acid crystals, so my goal was to prevent any formation of crystals or break them up if they were there before it was too late. I have no idea if this was a ridiculous fantasy or not, but it seemed to work.

This may have been posted previously but I have noted that gout occurs much more with males than females. I knew a hairdresser years ago, a lovely German woman who would have bouts of it in one of her hands. What a curse. It's kind of like the stories I have heard over the years of people we know who develop debilitating medical ailments that impede their functioning of either what they do for employment or retired persons who look forward to the pleasure of fly fishing and develop Parkinsons or eye ailments that interfere with painting etc.
