My bloody cat attacked and mauled me about midnight 2 nights ago. As usual she was sleeping on my bed but got up and climbed onto my chest. I made a sweeping movement with my left arm and she jumped on it and got in 3 great bites before I could get loose of her. Result..a pair of deep upper teeth punctures on the back of my forearm, ditto on back of my wrist and her lower teeth punctured the inside of my forearm. One of these bites bled into the tissues and left a lump which is purple. To the Doctor this morning, anti-tetanus shot and you-beaut antibiotics.Trouble with cat bites is they close up quickly trapping all the bugs inside where they set up abscesses. Tried an old bush remedy...sugar and soap poultice. Couple of teaspoons of any dry soap scraped onto a saucer, same amount any grainy sugar. Mix together, kneading with thumb. If it is so dry it won't mix, add one drop ! of water. Apply to the wound and band-aid or bandage. All the red swollen sores have gone down for me and the sugar mix has got "bits" in it.
If you want the science...Sugar is hygroscopic i.e. draws fluids upwards, the soap is just to hold the sugar in place and help keep the wound open while it cleans before healing. It is a bit like the old Magnesium Sulphate you could buy.
Naturally any sane person would see their doctor or hospital as soon as possible with any animal bites. No animals were hurt in its production....YET!

Speaking of sanity, WHY do people think cats are domesticated animals. I'd rather have an alligator as a pet. At least I'd always have my guard up with one of those.

Pacha is my favorite cat (just posted in another thread ...). It is a gorgeous cat. I used to hate cats and was a dog man. Now I prefer cats. But some cats are bastards. Even Pacha sometimes wants to become the master in our relationship. I told my daughter I was going to disinherit her and put Pacha on my will. Non mais.

I think one of the attractions of cats is that they are not totally domesticated. They don't follow you around with their tongues hanging out but live their own lives. Unless of course, they are hungry or want a cuddle.
Anyway, I would never sleep with a cat or dog on my bed or even in my room. Sometimes I vaguely think about getting another cat when we get older and don't want to move around much but then again, my husband doesn't want another cat (we have had several over the years) and I refuse to get a dog.

I had a cat in my Lombok village whom I called Jasper, orange and cream tabby. Most village cats just foraged and ran away from people, mine had proper food and came when I called her. Naturally she presented me with 3 orange and cream kittens whose antics were so funny that people would visit me just to watch them play. I called them Jimi, Janis and Jethro. Two had the little short crooked tail stumps which are a genetic glitch. Don't believe the people who say the locals cut the tails off!
There is a story that Mohammed loved cats and rather than disturb one who was asleep on his robe, he called for a knife and cut his sleeve off so he could tip-toe away.Since then all tabbies have a marked "M" on their foreheads. When I asked why Moh. used Roman lettering instead of Arabic, it was cat among the pigeons time.
They all went to good homes when I left.

I found when I had cats that this training thing was very easy. Within a day I was doing exactly as it wanted.

And I have an appointment at the ophthalmologist tomorrow morning for the first time in about ten years.

Oh dear. I hope that your procedure isn't too unpleasant dear Mick xxx
Ophthalmologist appointments are so protracted these days aren't they? My Dad and grandpa had glaucoma and macular degeneration so I get my pressures and retina checked periodically. There are a whole raft of tests but it's worth it...sight is so precious.
Visits to the optician are pretty lengthy too It's when I'm sitting in the chair in the dark with those heavy glasses with interchangeable lenses on, looking at an image whilst my tormentor drops in different lenses demanding.." is that better? Or worse" ...
It goes on for ages and tbh sometimes I have to say "I really don't know...maybe ?..."
Which is better than I used to be because in the past I've said "DEFINITELY better" just to get it to stop...silly really...(not done that for years I hasten to add..altho I sometimes want to)

Last time I went I had so much problems immediately after with flashes and black lines so a bit wary of going again. They denied it was anything to do with the test of course but a bit of a coincidence.

I've never had a vicious cat, though have known some. Including one named Olympe who looked like the sweetest little girl. She would walk across the room with her tail up - and bite people. Livia is such a sweet, cuddly thing, and of course she sleeps with me.

So, my mask-wearing Chinese eye doctor informed me that my sight has barely changed in the seven years since my last visit. I will still change glasses in a month or two.

Had an urgent dermatalogical appointment at hospital this morning for my scalp.
No plastic surgery and nothing cancerous. Phew!
Just a course of treatment.

BP like bloid pressure, not british petroleum...
Hope it gies ok. Acronyms are very difficult for non englishspeaking to folliw. They are hardly used in books, so even when straightforward require some intelligence to decipher. Exhausted now as a result ...
Went to the dentist yesterday. Last time was 2018. Not too much 'tartre' - forgot the name... limestone, calcaire ?
Must get a new crown soon. Will i join thecroysl family then ?

I thought the stuff that builds up on your teeth is called plaque? both in English and French. It's called calcaire when it's in a teakettle or an appliance.

Tartar and plaque are used interchangeably, I think. Tartar makes more sense because plaque sounds like they are honouring a hero or politician in your mouth.

I might be wrong, but I think plaque was a word trotted out for television commercials because someone thought it sounded better than tartar. To make it all really confusing, what is cream of tartar? Whatever it is, it has nothing to do with tartar sauce.

I am pretty good with my ears. When my Vietnamese driver had to get his motorcycle fixed about 10 years ago, he sent me over to the ear cleaners on the street. These were ladies with rather dangerous looking ear picks, but they knew how to use them. My technician was a bit disappointed because she found very few things to remove. I did enjoy the experience though because everybody knows that the inside of one's ears is a major erogenous zone when touched delicately.

Bad hearing can socially wxclude you so much... I see near deaf people at family outings who just sit by themselves, politely smiling. Totally alone in the crowd. It always saddens me.

And that's exactly how they show them on the television commercials for hearing aids in France. (Of course once they get one, they are siging and laughing with the group.)
