Did James Dean ever drive on Rte 66? Without looking it up, does anyone remember the TV show about those two guys who drove along route 66 and had adventures?

I remember the show, but couldn't remember the title. (duh) Gad, that was about fifty years ago, wasn't it?
My parents had this record, so it's kind of my automatic sound track for Route 66:
I moved to California from Oklahoma in the late 60s, via Route 66. The big deal was to do most of the driving at night, because it was cooler.

I know it was called Route 66, but I couldn't remember anything else about it; I just found this picture So clean-cut looking. I hadn't realized it was the very early 1960s.

I think my dad used to watch that show, that's why I had an idea of the time frame. I have a mental image of him in his chair in the den in the house where we lived in Nebraska. Until I saw your pic above, though, I'd forgotten that the car starred in the show, too.

I watched it when I was little, and about 10 years ago, one of the cable channels here shows tons of old episodes. It it total kitsch, but at the same time you find yourself looking for clues to life in the early 1960's, even if you lived through that period of time yourself.
For example, look at Martin Milner's driving skills in this clip, as well as the incredible acting. Back then, it all seemed completely normal to us.

Huh! It wasn't nearly as dreadful as I thought it would be. I recognized all the actors, even though I couldn't put names to them. Don't you love the way the music cues you to how you're supposed to feel?
