American Internment Camps during WWII

My mother's father was born in Australia of Oz parents. He rose to be an engineer in the Water Board which supplied the city of Sydney with water. He was very high up in his job and was one of very few who could manage the supplies.
Trouble was, his surname was "Beckhaus". Off to the city Alien Camp leaving wife and child at home.
It didn't take long before overflowing drains and lack of clean water made people realise that the person who organised the work gangs, water testers etc was among the incarcerated.

Arrangements were made and official permission was given for him to leave the camp after 7am and be back by 6pm. What a farce...I don't think they even considered that they were putting the city's water supply into the hands of a person they deemed the enemy.

I read in other threads that going briefly off topic was generally a good thing. I guess it depends on who is in charge of the thread. (And I will admit that it have not always appreciated it when it has been done on some of "my" threads.)
