What beauties!! I too have no knowledge of orchids and to tell the truth they are not my favourite flower, but these magnificent blooms are really stunning - and that blue one!! GORGEOUS! Wonderful Hwinpp, thanks for showing us.

"Quite nice" doesn't begin to cover it, HW. Wow, those are knock-outs and the whole greenhouse setting is pretty glorious. I can definitely understand how people devote lifetimes to orchid study, as the plants themselves are so amazingly varied and even the tiniest orchid flower a gem.
So beautiful, HW -- thanks for showing.
I'm pretty sure Casimira knows a great deal about orchids. It would be super to find out what families are represented in your pics.

I really enjoy seeing orchids growing "almost" naturally rather than those spindly things attached to plastic sticks that you see so often.

I am hoping Mick or someone can identify this orchid growing in a tub next to the pool - Given as a gift 2 years ago and blooming for the first time.

You are quite right Lugg! I looked it up and it is indeed a Slipper Orchid. I could not find the same variety as mine but the general appearance and shape are the same.

These orchids were growing in an orchid house in the beautiful botanical gardens in Kandy, Sri Lanka

Beautiful. Orchids often look like they must have originated on a different planet.

I have been told that when I was little I called them "fairy houses" I see no good reason to change that definition! ;D

Hello Lugg, Your orchids are magnificent! I tried to compare various flowers in our collections to see if any matched, but got carried away by the sheer beauty of them.
My neighbour was throwing out 2 large pots of orchids that hadn't been divided for 20 years and were hopelessly root bound and no longer flowering. I spent 2 days with a pick and clippers and now have 4 pots of happier looking plants. I must learn how to look after them properly. I couldn't believe the mass of roots, though...imagine a large tub of noodles, set almost like concrete!

This is how neighbour's orchids looked 3 years ago I hope some pull through my operation on them.

These are all so gorgeous! Makes me almost want to grow orchids, but I'm sure it'd be a lost cause for me. I love seeing the orchids in the coconut shells. Wishing you much success, Questa. I really like the colors or your new orchids.
