Mine was work related but I had no idea what it was. I was having terrible eyesight problems and went to Moorfields eye hospital to have it checked out. They said it was a social problem. My eyesight was just like having had a couple of drinks all the time.
I wasn’t eating well and didn’t even want a drink to make it better. I was doing some outside decorating and had a panic attack at the top of a ladder - not nice.
Mrs Cactus made sure I had a proper breakfast and I would have a lunchtime sleep in my car.
Eventually it passed but I recognise it now long before it takes over and do the right things to sort it out.

I have been in traumatic shock since Trump was elected.
The unexpected loss by Hillary Clinton, on top of the deaths of both parents and having to sell the family home, has kept me off balance for the past two years.
Tuesday’s election was only a small improvement, and Trump keeps adding insult to injury. Montana’s body-slamming congressman, Greg Gianforte, was re-elected. I really liked the positions, experience, and demeanor of the woman he defeated by riding Trump’s coattails.
But our moderate Democratic Senator Jon Tester survived a well-financed but under-qualified opponent who was a Trump sycophant, and who was the beneficiary of FOUR Trump rallies in Montana, plus 3 appearances by the VP and a multi-city tour by Donny Jr. Not to mention major advertising blitz by special interest PACs on his behalf. Whew!
AND the Democrats re-took the House, meaning we can finally have some impartial investigations of Trump’s campaign and financial entanglements with foreign governments.
And Mueller can finally resume his indictments, at least until he gets canned or loses his budget...

Trauma + things that mean a lot:
Bunch of trouble with the internet tonight -- can't get into fb or flickr. I was at the post office earlier today & they had no internet, so I'm not the only one.
The bright spot is that anyport is not only accessible, but rather zippy.

Coming back after a few weeks being away and busy. Thanks to whoever mentioned arnica. I have sore thumbs from arthritis and need to do some gardening so will go and buy some arnica.
I hope your ribs heal soon, Questa. It must be tough not to be able to laugh too much, not to mention hiccups. And keep well, everyone else.
We don't get chocolates here where I live when we turn 65. There is an invitation to a seniors' meal and a coupon for a flu vaccine. Chocolates would be preferable.

Oh Wow!!You get chocolates...and dinner...and even something useful, like s flu shot.....
If we manage to live for 100 years we get a Birthday card from The Queen. Actually it is sent from the office of HM and refers to her in the third person, so just how regal this acknowledgement of longevity is raises doubts.
I'd rather settle for chocolate too.

Ribs are healing but I had my annual skin check today and had 11 areas of skin frozen off my face and hands. Many of us get these 'pre-cancers' examined and removed before they turn nasty.

My ferocious Jack Russell cross chihuahua is very possessive of me. When out walking she gets between me and anyone other people and barks and tries to live out her delusion that she is a Pit Bull cross Mastiff on guard. Yes, that is how my Staffie carries on - Im told that Staffordshire Terriers are part of the Pit Bull range. But what a sweetie pie our little Patchy is! Now to train her to sleep in her own apartment and shoo away the intruders....which we had on Thursday night but of course our other two "electronic dogs" were on full alert and we chased the buggar off but not before he had stolen the truck radio.....GRrrrrr

That is a sort of claggy mud with a roundish stone rolling about in it, not bread in my book.

More seriously, there is a new trend in France -- grinding up unsold (hard as stone) baguettes and turning them back into a sort of flour, which can't be used for everything but which is perfectly acceptable for quite a few products.
There is a company selling both personal bread grinders, but also industrial scale ones. We are not talking about bread crumbs here but a powder almost identical to the original flour.

Mr. Kimby fell off a ladder (attic pull-down stairs actually) and hit his head into the wall. He’s fine, except for a circular laceration on his scalp.
But we will have to patch the big dent he put in the drywall...and pull out the hairs that were entrapped in the sheetrock. Now he can blame his bald spot on the Sheetrock Incident.

Maybe he can also use it as an excuse if he forgets birthdays or anniversaries.

We have a machine that makes bread. Somewhere in the house. In the basement would be my guess.
Went to the dentist yesterday. Détartrage. Removal of limestone ?

I saw that the other day and "seigneur-terrasses" does not exist, nor even "seigneur des terrasses" which would be the oorrect formulation. I wonder if they made up some of the other ones, too.

The German ones are right. Nearly. Kummerspeck is good, so is Fremdschämen. Packesel is just being, in English, a packhorse. Backpfeifengesicht though doesn't mean quite the same violence as backpfeifen means a cheek slap. But saying someone has a face meant for slapping I'd go along with.
N.b. a native German speaker can correct my attempt at what I understand.
I've noticed in German there seem to be numerous single words for a wimp. I'm not sure why but you are one if you park your car in the shade, if you throw snowballs with your gloves on, if you are a soft egg or a small sausage, if you like a warm shower, if you aare male and sit down to pee, maybe even if you talk tough with your friends but are henpecked at home. I like though "Zugzwang" - meaning something like to be pressurized into making a decision when you are not ready to.

Just wanting to check in. I've been in Italy for a few weeks for sad reasons and there will likely be no photo reports to share. I'm also in very, very rural Tuscany in a (lovely I must say) house with a phone line that has been out of service for three weeks now (thanks TIM!) after a lightning strike something like a km away, thus no real internet. I can connect on my phone, sort of, sometimes, but it's a weak connection because I'm out in the deep Appenine hills with the farmers and wild boar, so I tether my laptop to my phone and it's like being back in year ~1998 with a, very optimistically, 25Kbps phone modem so the wonderful, photo-rich threads here are just altogether too much for the bandwidth I have. On the plus side, the food has been heavenly and I have had the support of some great people and my Italian has, by necessity, gotten a lot better. Going into the little nearby town of Anghiari for a concert of Rossini arias tomorrow night, something to look forward to. Be back around when circumstances permit, PPT lamentation over, ciao.

Went to the dentist yesterday. Détartrage. Removal of limestone ? I believe in the business it goes down on the records as S&P (Scrape and Polish). Limestone is the rock; what you get in kettles is limescale; what you get on your teeth is for some reason called tartar (once set in place, until then it's plaque) My blog | My photos | My video clips | My Librivox recordings"too literate to be spam"

I thought tartar was the old term and plaque the newer fancy name for the same thing. No?
