Questa, there is also a function that saves drafts when you are typing directly on the site but you have to activate it in your profile.

Thank you for your help, bjd and K2. I will use the C&P in future. Kerouac, your method uses too many big words and jargon...like function, and activate and profile...

Questa, I think Bjd’s recommendation is best when typing out long posts, but it might be nice to auto-enable drafts for other, shorter posts. I did a search and found the following information from Bixa under the title of "How to do Stuff." DRAFTS -- saved work First go to your Profile to set Enable Drafts: Profile > Edit Profile > Settings > Enable Drafts (5th item) This will mean whatever you are typing anywhere on Anyport is being saved as you type it. (in theory) So, now you have Drafts enabled: If your message disappears for whatever reason before you can post it, first try clicking on Reply to see if the draft appears -- it will be in a separate, floating window. If you don't see it, scroll carefully up the page as it may be at the top. You can also exit the thread completely and re-enter it. Sometimes the draft will appear. Again, scroll up if you don't immediately see it. If it doesn't appear when you re-enter the thread, try pressing Reply to see it that works. You can also try clicking on History in your browser. The post may be there. But if it's not and you were making a picture thread, the links to the hosted pictures you were using might show up. Read more: anyportinastorm.proboards.com/search/results?captcha_id=captcha_search&what_all=Auto+save+draft&who_only_made_by=0&display_as=0&search=Search#ixzz68CjiRBiI

I certainly regret these wonderful people had to come out on a false call! Fret not htmb, they are all just as relieved as you that it was a false call. But also, rest assured, they would have broken your door down if you had not answered, they take no chances. It is not uncommon for these type of errors to happen when systems are installed, updated, or when they crash after power outages. Understandably it surely was a frightening situation when it happened.

Thanks, Mich. I appreciate hearing your understanding of the situation, and I’m certainly thankful for good people like your husband.

I had missed this thread. But a frightening experience which at least turned out OK, not to be recommended.

I am speeding through the German countryside from Berlin to Frankfurt. But they just announced that the Frankfurt-Paris train has been cancelled. "Stay on the train to Offenburg and take the train from Offenburg to Strasbourg. In Strasbourg, there is a TGV that will take you to Paris." Fact or fiction?

Caught a bus into town this morning. Usually takes up to 30 minutes but this morning it took over an hour because of the level of traffic.

DB promised me the wrong train at 15:31 but I got another one at 15:46, not even full. Home in 1h45. Vive le TGV.

Same for me. Sncf promised me a TGV which was replaced by another one. Just 8 hours later. So spent 3.5 hours in a fiat 500. Vive les Fiât.

Sitting and waiting for the man from Orange to come and fix my internet.
The time slot is 08:00-13:00.

Maybe he'll turn up early. I had an appointment for a Linky meter between 16-18:00 (4 to 6 pm) on Tuesday. At 1, he called to see if he could come at 2:30; I got there at 2:15 and he was waiting for me.

Orange man arrived around 11:00 and seemed very competent. Older and more mature than the guy a week earlier. He told me what the other guy had done wrong while avoiding direct criticism, which I thought was an excellent attitude.

I thought you were talking about Trump, till I saw the words “competent”, “mature” and “excellent attitude”

Woke up from a late night television stupor and saw flashes of blue light on my ceiling. That is never good. So I looked out my window and sure enough, my flat was surrounded by fire trucks and other emergency vehicles. There was an even stranger sight -- the one way street below my window was full of cars going in the opposite direction from the normal traffic flow, under the direction of various officials. I had no choice but to put on appropriate clothing and go down to see what was happening as midnight approached.
Frankly, I am still in the dark. The street behind my flat is blocked, including by fire hoses that have been deployed. But the street is not at all blocked to pedestrians as far as I can see, and the next flashing lights are quite far away, several blocks, even though there are a number of firefighters standing right there next to my building. I think I smelled a fire somewhere, but it could have been my imagination. I was too tired to wander down the street in the rain, so I will just go and see if there is anything to see tomorrow morning when I descend to the centre on a bike.

Since it was still dark when I got up (around 7:30 for a change), I could see something lying on the grass outside. Because of the wind, I was afraid it was one of our solar panels. But it's a big piece of thick plastic my husband had put over the front door entrance to give a bit more light than the tiles that were there before. He had attached it with screws to keep it from slipping, but had not expected it to be lifted up and thrown to the ground.

In his quest for improved Internet service, Mr. Kimby has (temporarily) commandeered my iPhone for its hotspot. - to test AT&T against Verizon - and I am back to using an old decommisioned iPhone as a wifi device.
Sooo slooow. And I can't get my email to work. But it DOES work on our desktop PC.
And AT&T connection speed was twice as fast as Verizon's. We are looking at switching to Cricket for its hotspot using AT&T. Anyone else use Cricket? (Stupid name, BTW)

I parked my car. Very narrow spot in a parking. I did real great. 5 mm on the left. Just a bit more and it is perfect. Loud bang. At 1 km in reverse. Ah. There was an overhang from the upper half floor. Just hit my rear window. Tempered glass. Just exploded. Grerrrrrr.

Ouch! Yes some of those car parks are very poorly designed… or else they think that drivers are more clever than we actually are.
My speciality was backing into posts in the street (anybody who has been to Paris knows how many of those posts we have) -- of course in the days before the rear end cameras on cars or the radar beeps.

Afraid I have done better. Driving up to the shops this morning, just turned out of my little road and hit a parked car. Well shook up and bruise to my chest, the ambulance people insisted on taking me to hospital for an X ray, but no broken bones. Guess Mr Plod will come looking for my driving licence. My own stupid fault.

So sorry to hear of these troubles, Whatagain and Mossie. So glad things weren’t worse. They certainly could have been much more serious Your problems make my running over a curb (front and rear tire) as I slowly came around a corner in the dark rain last night look very tame. I’m guessing the worst it did was knock my just serviced car out of alignment. Stupid new neighborhood meant to look like "classic, old Gainesville."

Mossie, in my time in the police with something like your accident, we weren't even then bothered about it. If necessary we'd make a record mainly so that insurance claimants had a police reference number. That was all.

The turkey I bought for a Christmas meal (along with a ham and a beef roast cuz I couldn’t choose) has leaked bacteria-laden juices all over the refrigerator, which has now gotten a thorough unplanned scrubbing.
At least it didn’t run into the produce bin!
