I stepped outside for about ten minutes and the dog, who is normally very well behaved, seized the opportunity to savor the delights of the waste can in the bathroom. Then, after feasting on the couple of discarded empty, cardboard rolls, she must have vomited. It blended into the little throw rug so well that I stepped in it, barefoot, when I went to clean up the remaining trash and try to figure out if she’d eaten anything dangerous. Fun times.

*gag*
Not as gross, but the last time I lost a contact lens I found it by accidentally stepping on it, which did it no good whatsoever. The real trauma part of this story is that pair of lens were already on their last legs and this was right when the virus came along. No way am I going to get up close and personal at the oculist's right now!

I don’t blame you. Fortunately for me, I saw my eye doctor In January and got new lenses then, but I hate glasses and would be lost without my contacts, Bixa. Good luck to you. My daughter in-law, who is a dental hygienist in Arizona, went back to work today for the first time in three months. She sent us a picture of her garb: heavy duty mask, glasses with magnification, a full shield that went from her hairline at the forehead all the way down to her chest, and scrubs. Fresh gloves with each patient, of course. She looked like someone out of a pandemic-themed movie, except this was real.

I'll bet you were relieved to see her in all that protective garb! Yes, and no. Glad for the garb, sorry for the situation. She’s a smart young woman and will work hard to stay virus free, while also protecting family and her patients. However, they live near a huge Navajo reservation, where the virus has hit very hard and continues to spread.

Oh gosh! I can see how you must stay on edge about that situation. You must be very proud of your daughter-in-law.

Long before the virus, my dentist would change gloves at least six times during a procedure -- every time he touched something different.

We took advantage of a calm morning after a couple VERY windy days (65mpg steady, 80+ mph gusts!) to go for a boat ride. We had to cut it short though as the wind came up and a squall approached.
My trauma, however, is that as we were getting the boat raised on its lift, I got my right hand in the path of the large wheel which raises the boat. The knob (like on a tractor’s steering wheel) came around and smacked my hand. I now am icing a grape-sized purple lump between my knuckles. Grateful I didn’t crack a bone.

It coulda been lots worse. I was lucky that the knob hit between the joints and bones. Icing seems to have helped. Tho it’s puffy and purple, I can wiggle all my fingers. I wish I had my arnica gel here to try on this bruise...

My dogs have not seen the vet since last year, when they stayed with her while I was traveling. I wanted them to have physicals, shots, manicures, & baths, so arranged for them to be picked up tonight. Well, they absolutely adore the vet's husband, so when he came to the gate they flipped out because they were so happy to see him. That's nice -- I want them to be happy. But they bounced off to get in the truck without even a backward glance.

We or at least I, had the day from hell yesterday. With the temperatures in triple digits I got an early start in an attempt to "beat the heat". After I completed most of my outdoor chores for the most part at the three other houses I am tending, and, then my own I ventured inside. I set out to do some household chores, turned the AC on and began vacuuming. Immediately the circuit breaker box tripped off and several of the electrical fed appliances went off. T reset the switches and I attempted to resume my previous chore(s). Again, off they go again. I rarely have a whole lot of energy after having done all the garden(s) work to then go about cleaning so I wanted to take advantage of it to the max. All my attempts were thwarted and my frustration level began to crescendo. By midday, (I had risen at 5 a.m.) having accomplished very little, I retired to the upstairs bedroom and attempted to continue watching the series I had started the previous evening. I had the AC on low and it kept cutting out. This went on throughout the day on into the evening when I finally surrendered and went to sleep. The ceiling fans stayed on because they are connected to a different circuit so it wasn't too bad. Today, we will attempt to contact our electrician/friend and see if he can come over and make some sense of it all. The temperatures today are going to be a repeat so, the sooner the better. That being said, not everyone is an early riser like me so goodness knows when and or if he will be able to come today.

No matter what the temperature, it is always total shit when the power goes off, especially when you are not sure what caused it, although in this case it seems to be the demand of the air conditioner.

Perhaps everybody is drawing on the power running their AC? I'm sure it uses a lot more power than a ceiling fan.

The circuit breaker box has multiple switches/breakers. The layout is so confusing. While some appliances are connected to the AC, others in the same room are not. The AC and the refrigerator downstairs are one the same breaker while the ceiling fans in the bedroom are not. I thought we had them labelled but apparently I was mistaken. One outlet in the bedroom does not work at all and I fear it may be the result of what Kerouac posted. The electrician was just here but I was out by the pond where there is another outlet that's connected to god knows what. The electrician came and went and of course, my husband only showed him the breaker in question that runs the AC and fridge. There was a rusted out screw and he thinks it may be just that causing the problem. Naturally, he didn't have one to replace it so off he went without my husband telling him anything about the other outlet(s). It's one big cluster f**k. My dog was glad to see him though.

Today’s trauma is that we finally buckled down and finiished our taxes. And then put them in the mail without signing the returns...

Oh hell, Kimby! I have noticed that the longer semi-isolating drags on, the harder it is to pay attention. We usually file online, but a form requiring a signature meant we could not file online this year. So we printed the returns out, signed that one form and totally forgot to sign the returns. We were enjoying a gin & tonic on the beach when it - very belatedly - occurred to me that we’d forgotten something. Kinda wrecked the moment.

I don't have to sign any tax forms physically anymore. My electronic signature is sufficient.
Oddly enough, at the optician on Friday, I had to sign one of the documents physically and one on screen with an electronic stylus.

Those electronic signatures are awful. No matter how hard I try, my signature looks like that of a clumsy 3 year-old.

This really fits the petty category: I wear contacts except when I’m reading late at night and early morning, but yesterday I dropped and busted my cheap readers. Now I have to go get another pair from the pharmacy/drug store and it will be more than a typical ordeal because of the pandemic. I’m not sure the exact strength, so will need to try on samples and to compare with what I’ve had. I have regular prescription bifocal glasses, but hate them and the readers are a slightly different strength. The prescription glasses are kept in the car in case I need them to drive since I can’t see distance without wearing a lens. Tomorrow I’ll be going to my annual appointment at the medical center, so maybe I’ll just go to CVS afterwards for the glasses. Either way, I’m bound to be around covid positive people, so will be on high alert.

When I went to the optician to get my new glasses recently, I was handed a tray on which to put any models that I tried on. Believe me, this really cuts down on the number of possibilities, because I didn't want to put 12 different things on the tray for decontamination. So I only tried 3 different glasses before choosing the 4th one.
There was a bit of a trauma about this, because I had decided to change styles just for the hell of it. I wanted to go a bit retro with not really horn rimmed glasses but something thicker than usual for more of a Clark Kent look (ha ha). When I finally selected the glasses, I discovered that they were identical to the glasses that I already have. Shit. Maybe next time.
