A few years ago the Tasmanian city of Hobart had a major problem. The city has a large bridge which joins the 2 halves of the city. A large ship crashed into the bridge, knocking out the centre span and isolating half the city. It took years to rebuild it but minutes before people were asking..."Where were you when the ship hit the span?"

I had decided to go exploring in the suburbs this morning but when I got out of the metro at Saint Lazare, the sky was black and it was pouring rain. I had been expecting sporadic light sprinkles, and my defective old umbrella was not up to the task, so I just stopped to pick up an internet order out of an automatic lockbox (how the world has changed!) and took the metro back home. When I got out of the metro 12 minutes later, the sky was blue and the sun was shining. Oh well.

Oh please go back oneday Kerouac. I love the unexplored parts tourists are too scared to go to. The other day on the internet a YouTuber did a scant walk around Chapelle, not even going inside the beautiful Rue Olive indoor market which I love so much. The whole vibe was portrayed as too dangerous for tourists. I know its not at all like that.

Last week the washing machine started leaking...Jeff managed to sort it somehow (the mysteries of his DIY knowledge and skill have saved us a fortune over the years). This morning my heated propagator stopped working....Jeff doesn't think that he can fix it but he's having a go...in the meantime I've ordered a heated mat to use instead as a replacement propagator costs an arm and a leg!
Jeff just informed me that now the tumble drier has died....he's had it in bits but the thermostat has gone or something catastrophic and unfixable..
Bummer.

Jeff just informed me that now the tumble drier has died. Oh my Cheery! Everything seems to happen at once. My parents dryer broke a few weeks ago but thankfully it was the belt and one was in stock and the repairman was there the next day. My mom said she was just happy it was not her washing machine, she can hang her clothes to dry but if it was the washer we would have helped her out. My brother stopped in and picked up their laundry, took it home and brought it back cleaned, dried and folded the next day when the repairman was there. Both our washer and dryer broke at the same time a few years ago, my husband said he was not surprised as we bought them at the same time. Most appliances are on back order here, hard to find a new one as the factories closed down for COVID and they are now behind in demand. I am still waiting for my coffee maker I ordered 2 months ago, certainly not an emergeny but I would like to have it arrive soon. The second hand shops are busy! Thank goodness for Jeff being able to fix your washer! We also always joke things break in April because that is when people are getting their tax refunds.

The EU has made programmed obsolescence illegal and all appliances must be reparable. It will take a number of years to see if there are any results to this decision -- I imagine that quite a few lawsuits will need to be filed.

Gosh I'm so sorry things have collapsed in a heap all at once Cheery! I have never heard of a heated propagator - I'll have to Google it to understand where and when you put it to make the seeds sprout.

My heated propagator is quite old. Basically it's 2 plastic seed trays with a heating mat between them, sealed together. I put about 1 cm fine sand in the bottom and stand plastic pots containing my seed compost with a few seeds sown in each. The tray has a clear plastic lid. I have the propagator on top of my desk in the conservatory, where there's good light and it's near an electrical socket so that I can plug it in. It just keeps the pots at a fairly constant temperature...slightly warmer than elsewhere. Our house is quite cold.

I wish I had a heated GH, or an electricity supply to the GH. When I win the lottery.

I had two heated propagators which my sister's neighbour passed on to me when he was moving house. They've been in the shed for over a year and I gave them away last week when I tidied the shed. I could have sent you one.

I refused to allow myself to buy ice cream when I went to the supermarket this afternoon, and now I really really want some.

We started our taxes a couple weeks ago using Turbo Tax like we always do. Today Mr. Kimby planned to resume working on them, but apparently the software did not save a copy. All that tedious effort wasted. Grrr.

Probably not as mad as Mr. Kimby is! Especially after wasting several hours trying to find/recover the lost file.
It appears we left the Turbo Tax file open without saving it, and when he shut the computer down when we went to the lake it was just lost. OMG.
At least the deadline has been extended to May 15. Starting over...

Had a thing removed from my jawline this morning and sent for biopsy. Probably a squamous cell carcinoma. If so, will go back for more surgery and stitches. At least the mask will cover the area when in public.

Gosh, Htmb -- I do hope when the lab report comes back that this turns out to be more petty than not! I have a friend who deals with related skin issues. As a matter of fact he had just started a course of Efudex (which he is now deferring because he has to go to the US in about a week). Perhaps you'll be able to get away with only that kind of treatment. In any event, please let us know.

Thanks, Bixa. I actually did a course of Efudex about 18 months ago. Was easy the way my doctor prescribed in that I applied it for fewer days during the week (four, I think), but the course took more weeks to complete. Anyway, was very easy and my face didn’t look all that bad in the process. This new spot popped out back in February and isn’t a pre-cancer. It’s about half the size of a pencil eraser, and could actually be a benign growth or a mole, but it’s doubtful. I should know in a few days.

Waiting is never good. I tend to.indulge with some wine during wairing process ..
I got my latest blood analysis. Not to be called good, but no disaster and much better than a few weeks ago.

Aside from splinters and fingernails ripped into the quick, my 3 days of hard labor clearing out the 57 years worth of stuff at the family cabin didn’t cause me any harm but I sure am stiff in hips, back and shoulders. My sister, however, stepped on a board with a rusty screw sticking out and bled like a stuck pig. After soaking and dressing her wound, she carried on, but we got her a tetanus shot at first opportunity.

I also pulled 4 ticks off my body. Not the deer ticks that cause Lymes Disease though, so no big deal.

4 ticks ?
My pet peeve is that one of our cat got ran over. I collected it and buried it. As my back is broken from hard work on Thursday, digging the tomb was quite difficult.

This sounds like a personal trauma, whatagain, and not a petty one either.
“Sorry for your loss” seems trite, but what else can we say?
NOT the ubiquitous “Thoughts and prayers!” which is a pet peeve of mine.

If so, will go back for more surgery and stitches. Hope all goes well htmb. Mr. M. had a procedure done in January on his cheek so I understand the process, hope and fear. His mother and brother have also dealt with skin cancers. My pet peeve is that one of our cat got ran over. Sorry to read about your cat whatagain.
