What a clever design!!! The perch serves as a place where the hummingbird sits in between sippings of the nectar. One of my feeders had a similar design and other ones I have had I placed a perch on it by attaching a piece of a wooden chopstick on it. This allows them to take a break and keeps the other hummers from zooming in until the other one sates his or herself.

Do Sunbirds visit hummingbird feeders in your part of the world, tod? I can see I thought my sunbirds were all part of humming birds but now realise mine are only Sunbirds or also called Sugar birds. They perch in amongst my flowering bushes as they probe each flower. I thought the perch near the neck of the bottle was a bit too far so have bent it slight bit closer.

After being gone for 3 days, The Prodigal Son cat, Pompeii showed up at our new place at 2:30 in the morning. All of a sudden I felt something jump up on our bed and there he was. "here I am". We knew he was over at the old place as we went and saw him several times and neighbors reported multiple sightings of him. We were unable to lure him out from under several cars and houses and it was like one big game for him. "Catch me if you can." Little bugger...

He definitely had/has our number and was on to us each time we went over there. I think he didn't want for his buddies and or enemies over there to see him being taken away as he had worked real hard to establish his dominance there and wasn't about to look like a "pussy" in front of them.

Casimira that cat of yours definitely has 9 lives! I think it is marvellous the way cats can find their way back home. We had an un-neutered cat that escaped from our new house - butter paws and all - and transversed the entire city to get back to our old ground floor apartment. It took three weeks but one night there he was sitting meowing in front of the patio door of the next apartment as ours was still vacant. Luckily the neighbor was our vet so fed him and brought him straight back. Didn't wander off again.

We kept him locked in last night and he wasn't real thrilled about it and cried a bit but eventually settled down. A house that we put in a back up offer on buying is in our old hood. They accepted our offer but, we need to get an electrician to go in and give us an estimate on having the wiring updated. No way am I going through that again and the inspection gave a strong indication that the wiring is the original and needs to be taken care of. If we do buy it we will be back in familiar territory which Pompeii can continue to dominate with his old buddies. I hate being in this kind of limbo but it's the only house available that's within our price range and in our same neighborhood. and we have 14 days to make up our mind. Option 2 involves tearing down the old house and rebuilding a new house which would take a very long time. Decisions, decisions, ...

If you can stay in the neighbourhood that your cat knows and loves, that will be great, as long as he doesn't feel that you are infringing on his territory.

Option 2 involves tearing down the old house and rebuilding a new house which would take a very long time. Decisions, decisions Now you are talking major operations over months. Drawing up a proposed plan for building has to be approved I'm sure - Then a person to draw up the plans that is very qualified like an architect - finding a reputable builder - being able to get the interior of the house done to your taste, Casimira - as my husband is an ex builder and has built 5 houses and two commercial buildings,( Beside running a successful business} - He would advise get the wiring re-done. Move in.

I started breaking in a new computer today, or rather a new computer started breaking me in. This is at least my 10th although 3 others are still in service more or less. I can tell that my main computer is on its last legs, especially with the hard drive 95% full, and I decided to take matters into my own hands before it suddenly died on me.
To show the new computer who was boss, the very first thing I did was to install the classic Windows 7 shell to hide the Windows 10 elements that I HATE HATE HATE.
Naturally, the principal trauma is transferring files and deciding which ones should be archived on external drives that I will never find again.

My laptop has 1TB of storage. Seems about standard. I'm currently about a third full. the majority is, as you'd expect, photos. If I start wondering about if I'll have enough space I employ a bulk image resizer. A simple affair. I then reduce the image sizes for all that I've put on the laptop since I had it. I then keep the reduced size ones on the laptop and transfer the full size originals to an external hard drive.
If I'm setting up a new laptop I just then transfer every single photo I've taken over the years to the new one, but in a reduced format, keeping the full sized ones on a very large external drive. Then continue for a few years just keeping the full size ones I've taken whilst I've had the new machine - repeating the resizing and just transferring those each time and keeping the full size ones elsewhere.
If you see what I mean.

I thought you didn't want to stay in the same place with the big garden? I do and I don't. I have vacillated over this from the time we first viewed the property. It has a very large courtyard and several citrus trees already growing back there. Much more manageable to be sure. There are 2 camps of people who think we should rebuild and then the others who are urging us to buy this place. Tomorrow we will meet with our realtor and go over the inspection and try negotiating with the sellers to come down on the price based on the cost it would take us to have the place rewired. No insurance company on the planet is going to insure us with the wiring that is currently there. So, we shall see. The money we would get by selling the old place even as is would offset the cost of buying this house and the rewiring. That being said, the sellers surely cannot think that we would purchase their house "as is". We'll go over all this with the realtor and try to settle on a lower cost of purchase.

When I bought a new computer a year or two back I bought an inexpensive 8TB external HDD. I can keep my hoarded stuff I'm too lazy to sort through (hoarding data takes up no home space at all!) and back up my new system in its entirety with several TB to spare. Surely that will be all the storage I ever need (except I've said this at least twice before).

Good luck Casi with your decision making . House moves are always a challenge. My sis has her house on the market at the moment as she wants to downsize. She said she would be very laid back about it , but I can see the cracks already. Next year I plan the same.

Thanks Lugg. It is a tedious process and lots of meetings, appointments etc., most of them are in a suburb of NOLA, Metairie, and it's a pain to keep going out there. Then, lining up the various persons who specialize in certain aspects of the process. So, our calendar is pretty full fulfilling these obligations to keep the ball rolling. How these people who are selling the property imagined they could get by selling the property and not have alerted any prospective buyers of the numerous flaws is unconscionable to me. I don't know the wife of the couple selling but know her husband well enough as we shared gardening tips and exchanged plants over the years. I don't know how he could look me straight in the eye. People sure do disappoint when we least expect it. And so it goes. More will be revealed I am sure as we tread down the avenue of uncertainty.

The apartment next door to mine is for sale for an outlandish price and it is the plumbing that needs to be completely replaced, but I'm sure that the burden will be put on the buyer rather than the seller. I was in the centre of Paris today and looked in the window of a real estate agent. They were proposing apartments of an absolutely identical size and look as the one next door but for double the price. It is a 15 minute subway ride between the two locations but "location is everything" for a lot of buyers. I'm sure that the apartment next door will be sold more or less for the asking price, and the new owner will either do the necessary work... or not.

When we sold my parents’ home of 66 years, the buyer’s inspection revealed that the wiring was not up to code - today’s code, that is.
But because the way it was wired was standard for the time it was built, we were not required to upgrade it. (Specifically, there were no 3 prong grounded outlets, and far too few outlets, too.)
Maybe other states have similar rules.

When you sell real estate in France, a diagnosis of the place has to be made by an official, licensed person: size, presence of termites, lead, wiring, etc. Not that the seller has to fix any of it, but so that the buyer knows what he/she is getting.
Casi, that place you are talking about sounds like it has too many problems. If they are only beingdmitted to after being discovered by official inspections, then there are certainly others that will not be found.

You may well be right BJD. How much to update and repair them is our main concern. Our contractor from the old house is scheduled to go over there and give us a run down and estimate of costs to repair. Some may be done over time time. But, the wiring is naturally our main concern. The place had been renovated in 2006. Don't ask me why the wiring wasn't part of it. That would have been the ideal time to address it. TBC...

The bank downstairs was closed for two and a half months for total renovation and reopened about a month ago. I guess that one of the ATMs looked a bit too appealing, because this happened last night. I didn't hear a thing, so I went to the best source of information this morning -- Fatima, an old Tunisian woman who spends at least 10 hours a day sitting on the bench in front of the building, rain or shine. I'm not sure where she lives, but it might be the building next door because she said she heard it all. "It was at 3:30. I woke up when I heard the car pulling -- VRRRR VRRRR VRRRR!" I sleep like a log so I miss out on a lot of things at night. I didn't see the police until I returned from the movies around 11:30. My building is a total whore for attention. I guess that's why the street artists keep adding more and more things to it.

Thanks, K2. But what I was really hoping for was an exterior view of the building that showed your windows.
I do envy your herb garden, though. I usually manage to keep a potted basil plant going most of the summer, but have had no luck with dill or cilantro. They “bolt” too early in our normally hot dry summers.
