I wonder if anyone might have a trick for keeping my glasses from fogging up when I’m wearing a mask. I’m kind of late to this experience. I’ve worn contact lenses for 25 years, and rarely ever wear glasses except for reading at home late in the evening. However, I’ll soon be having an extensive eye exam and I’m not allowed to wear my contacts for the two weeks prior to the appointment. I absolutely hate wearing glasses, so this alone is torture for me. Plus, the damn things continue to fog up no matter which mask I try. I seem to remember something about washing the lenses with soap. Is this even a thing?

*laughs bitterly* Htmb, the first thing to try is pairing different masks with different glasses, if you have more than one pair. The next thing is to realize that you'll have to wear the mask lower down your nose than you do with contacts. This is where the standard flat, pleated disposable mask comes into its own. Since it is not rigid nor molded, you have a fighting chance of fitting it on your face in a way that doesn't fog your glasses. You will note that the mask will probably not wind up fitted as tightly to your face as you could manage when wearing contacts. Okay, that may be marginally less protection, but on the plus side, you get a little more air, which is so handy for breathing. You can also experiment with the fit of the mask in the chin area, if that helps keep the top part in place in such a way that your glasses don't fog. Since none of those tricks work perfectly, relieve your frustration by punching an anti-vaxxer. They can't hit you back -- you wear glasses!

Thanks, Bixa. I tried a disposable, moldable mask today and it still fogged up. So did my favorite “athletic” brand mask. I spent the morning pulling the glasses on and off amd adjusting the mask like a nutcase. I only have one pair of prescription glasses and they’re bifocals. Since I have just needed them for emergency driving in the past, I went with the cheaper lenses. There’s no way I can drive a car (legally or literally) without them. I’ll have to see if I can wear my cheapo reading glasses with a mask just to see grocery labels. At least, if the damn things fall off and I step on them, they come five to a box for $10.99. Maybe they’ll fit better over a mask.

My fog goes away when the glasses adjust to the temperature of where I am. I'm not sure if that would work in an icy Publix, though.

True. Plus, the Publix temps vary from aisle to aisle. However, I spent over an hour in a frigid bank office yesterday and the glasses never adjusted. Maybe I’ll attach some kind of lanyard to them so they can hang around my neck and I won’t have to worry about them falling on the floor and breaking.

So you've discovered that, despite the well-meant advice, the only thing that really works is not to breathe while wearing both glasses & a mask.

I guess I’ve been spoiled. I really miss my contacts. Now I see why masks are so problematic for some good people (not the jerks and whiners who are totally anti-mask). In the past, wearing a mask hasn’t bothered me much at all.

My husband and I both wear glasses so I understand your issue htmb! The worst is the trasition from the car to inside the grocery store, air-conditioning - humidity - air-conditioning makes them fog up every time! The only thing that has helped me is placing my fitted mask almost under my eyelashes as soon as I get out of the car, no fog, once in the store for a couple of minutes I readjust it. I have a pretty big mask so it still sits under my chin when I have it up so far.
My husband used to use Sunlight dish detergent on his hockey mask for the fog, it worked. I have not tried it on my glasses though.

I sure I could get my mask up higher. Will give that a try, too. Thanks, Mich.

I was "scouting" for a operation being done by one of Sydney's top ophthalmologists. He noticed I was having problems with glasses fogging up and gave this advice.
Take a cake of DRY laundry or bath soap that is not perfumed or moisturised. Hold it with a corner acting as a crayon tip and scribble over the front and back of the lenses. Take a dry cotton cloth and polish the lenses until clear. Trial and error showed me that I need to have scribble covering about 1/3 of each lens for it to work. He stressed to keep glasses clean, wash and dry them daily, not just so murky that you really are limiting your vision.
Tell me how it goes.

So will I ! I have several different shaped masks and fabice textures but find I have to pull the mask up to just under my eyes then place my glasses on top of the edge of the mask. Squidge it down securely and breath normally. This helps to stop the glasses fogging up for at least 10min.

I followed Questa’s instructions and they worked great! No fogging, even though I was in the same grocery store as the other day. My glasses did fog up a bit once I received my booster vaccine, but even then, the fogging was minimal. I must have been breathing super hard for a minute or so.

Rubbing dry soap on mirrors has been a recommendation for at least 50 years to keep them from fogging up in the bathroom.

The sun was shining, the sky was blue, and the bi-weekly municipal water was coming in. I did a full load of wash & immediately hung it out to dry a few minutes ago. Now the sun is still shining but it's raining.

Now the sun is still shining but it's raining. In Africa that is called 'Á Monkeys Wedding' - Loved to run around in the rain as kids when that happened!

"A monkey's wedding" !!!
When it rained when the sun was shining, my mother said that the devil was beating his wife because she put too much pepper in his soup.
An old man here in Mexico said that it's the deer crying.
As to my personal trauma ~ I was awakened during the night because of the force of the rain. This morning I can see that some of my plants got battered. The laundry out on the line is well and truly rinsed, at least.

I got caught in a major downpour yesterday while trying to get to the postal store where we are having our mail delivered to. By the time I got there I was drenched and my mask was soaking wet. The clerk graciously told me I could remove my mask and went to get a clean towel to dry my head off and wring out my mask. She also gave me a plastic bag to put my canvas bag in to keep the contents dry as I headed back out for the walk home. I really like walking in the rain and don't mind getting drenched because I know I don't have too far to walk and can just peel off my wet clothes and don some dry ones. I also like how my hair feels after being rain soaked and how soft it feels when it dries.

I have multiple traumas.
1. I went back to the gym 2 weeks ago, went 4 times, and 3 times this week, exxagerating last time. Legs are heavy as lead. 2. My godson baught rollers to his goddaughter, who happens to be my daughter. So she asks me to watch her. I surprised her by buying rollers for myself. I fell like a heap of bricks. Right leg hurts. 3. I got my 3rd dose of Pfizer. Have light fever and pain in the left arm.
Nothing serious. I will skip gym tomorrow i think.

I think you deserve a day or two of sick leave...here is your note... "To whom it may concern This gentleman had forgotten the wisdom of Moderation in all things - including Moderation." He really is a nice hardworking chap otherwise.

We don't have such marvellous names, just call them "Sunshowers". The country people have an expression when it starts to rain, specially when it has been dry for a while. "Send her down, Hughie!" as they look skywards. No one knows who "Hughie" is meant to be.

Whatagain I suggest you tie a cushion onto your backside until you get your balance. Are you talking about Roller Skates OR Roller blades? I bought my grandson a pair which can be both. Just unclip and replace. I still have my rollerblades but would never consider trying to skate now. If I broke a hip that would not be good. Take it easy at the gym - Your body has been in Lala land for a long time - be kind and build up slowly. When you Penguin walk you have found out just how Lala it's been!

That is so cool that you got skates so you could skate with your daughter, Whatagain!
