Neighbourhoods* take the Green line out to Brookline and explore Coolidge Corner.
the heart of tourist Boston is called Faneuil Hall and it is in the heart of the city between The Common and the waterfront. You'll walk right through it if you are passing between the two areas. There are some historic 18th century buildings here and the central ones are known as the Faneuil Hall marketplace, a big touristy shopping/eatery complex.
* South End || north:Columbus Ave//south:Harrison Ave//east: Berkley Street//west: Massachusetts Ave || numerous good places to eat
* The North End (Italian neighbourhood)
* Davis Square in Somerville (on the Red line) has some hip cafés/restaurants.
* The South End and in Cambridge there are some hip cafés & restaurants in Kendall Square and along Massachusetts Avenue from Central Square;almost up until Harvard Square. Harvard Square is full of tourists and though it's kind of aesthetically nice it's not what I consider hip or trendy but more touristy. However, if you are at the art museums at Harvard then you might as well give it a look.
