Astounding photos, Lugg! Your terrestrial pictures are a match for your dazzling underwater shots.
Just beautiful, Cheery. Your affection for the fuzzy little darlings comes through in your pictures.

I saw a most unusual bee on a Hibiscus bush this morning. It was shades of pale grey, nothing like the normal bee colours. It wouldn’t stay still enough for a picture though.
Any idea Cheery?

Mick, it's an albino bee. Don't think I'm kidding either.

It happens...we had a pale brownish one in the garden years ago. I posted a pic to the bumblebee conservation trust a while back, convinced I'd discovered a new hybrid! They said it was just a bombus terrestris. I could be wrong. Bumblebees tend to visit the same patch if it has a good source of nectar or pollen...so keep your camera to hand Mick!

I thought this was an arachnid but now I see up close that it isn't.

Golly, that is a very strange looking bug. The nearest shape to me is it is similar to a "Stink Bug". They have a sort of old Citroen shape. Lugg, Cheery, Kerouac - super photos.

Looking at my photo again, I think there might be two more legs that are hidden. It does not look like an insect at all.

No, I'm in accord with Tod in that it looks like a stink bug.

Yes very strange - I have not heard of a stink bug before

We have two kinds of stink bugs in Montana, that I know of. They get carried into the house on firewood.
They are True Bugs, with a shield shape on their back. One is wider-backed than the other and just smells bad. The narrower one is far more abundant and smells overpoweringly like over-ripe apples.
Our cats have always shown zero interest in catching them. Once stunk upon, they are never fooled again.
They only stink when disturbed. Like when I pick them up and toss them outside.

Great efforts Lugg, the wings are almost sharp and they buzz at a fair old rate as the bee is attempting to hover while pushing its proboscis into the flower for the nectar. The pollination job is accidental and a very clever trick on the part of the flower.

Oh, I have given up on trying to get bees or anything else in flight, so bravo! The other night I dreamed about bees being everywhere, hundreds of them. They were not threatening and I immediately wanted to take pictures of them. But for some reason, you can't take real pictures in a dream.

The flower is Canterbury Bells or Campanula - I have both the blue and white versions but would love some of the pink ones too. Thanks all I am still trying - it occupies an hour or so of my covid day

Thanks, Lugg! I grew those years ago, but failed to recognize them. Also remember seeing seed packets containing all three colors. I think there is a green version, too, called Bells of Ireland.
