Great pics Lugg. Last year we didn't see many hoverflies but this year it's back to normal. We've really had a lot of bees in the garden this year. If only the dog would leave them alone!

Yes me too Cheery lots of bees and hoverflies but not so many varieties of butterflies this year, despite my planting to encourage them. Have you noticed that too?

Thanks, all!
Lugg, that is a pretty common butterfly in North America. It's a Papilio cresphontes, aka giant swallowtail.

Very cool picture, Lugg. I love how the inclusion of the sunflower shows how tiny the the little flutterby is. I know I posted a picture of this kind of butterfly already, but I'm rather thrilled that a camera photo came out so well. Does anyone know what those teeny little white spots on the bottom part of the wings are?

I'm just glad that this one has not been chewed on like the other one.

It is gorgeous but not sure what you mean re the white dots ?

Near the bottom part of each wing is a sort of boomerang-shaped red mark. The tiny white dots are just above those red marks.

Osh that is some monster with huge eyes! Flies are ghastly creatures but that one looks quite pretty. Darn good photo I think!

Nice to see a new season of pollinators, Cheery. I've been keeping my eyes peeled as all of the flowers bloom, but I just haven't found any good opportunities yet.
