The ragwort photo is pop-out perfection, Mossie. I saw that in bloom and was wondering what it was, so thanks for that, too.
Having only read about rosebay willow herb, I had no idea it was so stately.

And both got a big boost in and around London as a result of the Blitz: they quickly colonised the bombsites, of which there were still quite a few around in my childhood. I agree Patrick, but I think the biggest gainer was buddlea It was amazing to see quite large bushes growing from 3 or 4 storeys up. I suppose the soot and dust gathering gave them a foothold
