That one would seem scary if we did not know that most giant cumulo-nimbus clouds are just big harmless pushovers.

The words look as though they're etched into a layer of concrete. What is the building?

I was going to say that the tree branches look like they're etched on the wall as well.

well i guess that has more to do with my somewhat exaggerated treatment of the picture (but somehow i thought that befitted it...)
hte building is just a normal building with apartments in there, afaik...

A church in the same area. Again I can't say much about it, just some random church I photographed...

Well, you could say "survived the war" or perhaps "well rebuilt after the war." I can never get those images of postwar Berlin as a field of rubble out of my head.

Post by rikita on Dec 4, 2011 20:41:28 GMT
well yeah i guess it is older than the war. no idea how destroyed and rebuilt it was - i don't know if really all places were rubble, as in some area also the apartment houses are older, and i would suppose in those cases they'd have built new ones had they been destroyed... this is the same church again btw...

The photo is both great and grim. It looks like Count Dracula could have been baptized there.

A park near where I live... I was told that this strange round "valley" in the middle of the park is due to a bomb. Don't know if that is true...

In 2008 we rented a small place on Wienerstrasse, so went for walks there a couple of times.

ah ok, cool... was that in winter or summer? if summer, did you see the amount of barbeques they do there? sometimes from far away you'd think there's a fire because of the smoke...

It was in April, but in 2010 we went back in June. It was hot those days and when we went back there we indeed saw lots and lots of picknickers and bbqs.

Oh -- love that picture of the park, Rikita! Even with all the modern stuff in it, it still has some feel of a Breughel. Your compositions are always so stellar. davidpratt.info/climate/clim4-5.jpg

ah, the photo isn't from this year, hwinpp... usually, when i take a photo it takes a few months before i edit it, then a few more months before i put it on my flickr album, and then a few more months before i post it here... so none of my fotos are really recent...

bjd - yeah, june is a very popular time, when it is finally warm enough... i really like that about this park that people like really being there and doing their thing there. it is quite small, really, and tends to be crowded, but it really is a park people seem to feel at home in...

this time some nature though - this is in a park:

Since it is a park, is that a natural or a manmade water feature?
|
|
|
Post by rikita on Dec 21, 2011 9:09:39 GMT
artificial, I would say... At least this doesn't look like any natural waterfalls I have seen in this region here...

That does indeed look carefully arranged! It must be interesting to have a career as a "water feature designer."
