Even though my next trip will be to Belgium and Luxembourg, probably in no more than a month, I have reached the conclusion that the destination of my next "big" trip will be based on which country will accept me without quarantine or other problems. At the moment, Vietnam, Thailand, Singapore and Hong Kong are on my list.

It's a good thing that I live alone because I have been producing gas today that would run anyone out of my flat.

That was a lovely thing to do Whatagain. What a kind man you are. X Hear hear . I am now seriously thinking about breaking all the rules, my grandson is now 9 weeks and I have not seen him yet. I don't think I can last much longer and his parents want me there too ...so some serious thinking to do .

Spot checks for trips have been, well, rather spotty in France/ What do you risk? I saw that government officials in the UK seem to think that it is all right.

Do you have a sensitive GP, Lugg, who will arrange a swab test to clear you of any infections and a letter indicating your mental health situation is such as to require you to be there with the baby. You might just have to stay there until the lockdown is over. Do you have any contacts with any politicians who may put in a good word for you. Good Luck

I think my metro station reopened today for the first time in 67 days, but I won't be able to go and risk my health for another hour and a half since I am a non worker.

Lugg, my neighbour told me her sister had a baby on May 1st and even though that was still lockdown period in France, her parents were given authorization to go and see their new grandchild. And just think about a friend of mine in Toulouse whose son and wife had a baby (their first grandchild) in April -- in Hong Kong. They can't go until at least October, or perhaps not until Christmas. The see the baby on skype very often, but it's not the same as holding her.

Now that that arrogant cunt cummings can drive half the country to visit his relatives it must soon be time for the rest of us. Oh, I forgot, it is do as I say, not do as I do, because I am superior to you.

It's the straw that will break the camel's back for Boris I think. I know a couple who live in London who scarpered to a rented cottage in the middle of nowhere just before lockdown, mainly because they felt unsafe where they were, I should think that there are quite a few people who did that, not everyone has that option and it doesn't make it right.
However the senior advisor to the country's leader should be setting an example. I don't agree with the doorstepping and aggression that is going on tho, it isnt his family's fault the blokes a twerp, and it must be frightening for his neighbours, never mind his child. Not that I have any sympathy for Cummings himself.

I watched a bit of that on the BBC website. Amazing performance: half an hour late, then reading off his spiel in a flat voice, then making it sound as though the fault was that of the media for publicizing it, no fault on his part.
A comment I read in the Guardian this morning mentioned that in fact they have family in London, and that none of the reporters asked whether his wife drives.

I was wondering how the UK figures differ from these in South Africa when it comes to breaking the rules - which are put there to protect us. Our Minister of Police Bheki Cele says that almost 230,000 cases have been opened against people for contravening the country’s lockdown regulations since they were first introduced at the end of March. Some are fined, some get a warning. What happened to naming and shaming? I suppose a waste of newspaper print.

Probably we just have to content ourselves with the fact that a few of them are caught and shown to the rest of us. Since (I hope) most people are honest and law-abiding but are not immune to temptation, this helps to keep the majority in line. It's not sufficient, but it's better than nothing.

I was wondering how the UK figures differ from these in South Africa when it comes to breaking the rules Apparently just under 14000 spot fines (fixed penalty), some people have been fined more by courts. But likewise, some have been overturned on appeal. I would guess most police interventions have been to "advise" people about distancing, but looks like a fair few beaches were more than they could cope with on Monday (bank holiday): UK crowds enjoy May sunshine as lockdown eases – in pictures

Thank you for those pictures Patrick - When I die and go to hell, it will be to one of those coastal beaches with all those people who could have contracted Corona whilst enjoyable themselves.

The pictures were most interesting, not least in how they showed some people carefully maintaining distance outside of family groups and others throwing caution to the winds.
What mostly got me was the picture of the clogged traffic in the Yorkshire Dales. I'd always heard that it was overrun, but thought that was hyperbole. Apparently not!
