Good trick tod! I have a couple of friends who like to stay until way past my bedtime. I've learned to just say 'well it's been lovely but I'll have to throw you out now' and that generally works.
My beloved sister and her husband used to be terrible...always late (even if they were invited for meal) and always stayed well after everybody else had gone home. They lived only a km away so there was no point in asking them if they'd like to stay the night...Now both my sister and my brother in law are no longer with us and I miss them awfully.

I had a couple who just stayed way past my bedtime. My son (aged about 11 at the time)walked into the room yawning and 'winding ' an alarm clock.. As we looked he did a cartoon 'double take' saying, " Oh, Is that the time? Off to bed, Mum, you have work in the morning." It worked nicely and we were all laughing at the Warner Bros cartoon copy as they left.

Well said Cheery, we always miss what exasperated us from people we love. So we should be wiser and appreciste it when it still lasts. However i have become like my father : when i want to go to bed, i do and tell friends they let themselves out when it suits them... Or, in the worst case, i fall asleep in the bathroom, drunk...

I've always managed to get myself to bed even if I was a little squiffy Whatagain, altho on a night shift I could doze lightly in the lab whilst sitting at a bench(not drinking when I was working I hasten to add!)...waiting for samples to arrive....unless it was really busy. The time between 0300 and 0500 being the worst. I've just managed to get an online delivery slot for 'Marks and Spencer at Ocado' so I'm chuffed to bits. I've never used Ocado before so I did the minimum shop...I do LOVE M&S stuff tho so I'm hoping that I get what I've ordered and not a load of substitutions.

The other day on a long walk, I had planned to finish at M&S Food to pick up some unusual (for France) goodies at la Villette. However, I discoverd that it has given up that ghost at that location, along with about half of the other shops in that mini mall. Most of those places live due to the Pathé cinema megaplex on the top floor, and with that closed, there is absolutely no reason to go there. The M&S food location has become the click & collect delivery point of the cultural megastore just across from it. The cultural store is completely empty but it clearly has more capital behind it, so it is trying to last through the covid drought. I hadn't planned to go there, but I went in and bought two books just because.
As for M&S Food, I will try to go to another location soon, which should theoretically be surviving because it is in a main train station closer to the centre of town.

My husband has a friend who I am not particularly fond of as he doesn't seem to have any boundaries and at times gets "out the box" particularly when he has been drinking which is most of the time. This past weekend I had to really put my foot down as he pushed the limits too far and I asked him to please not come around anymore because he was stressing me out too much. I also had to let my husband know my strong feelings about this person and the anxiety he creates. It was not a pleasant weekend as a result of this fellow but I'm hoping that I got my point across and he stays away.

Cheery, I've been having my non-fresh grocery items delivered for months & have come to like that better than going to the store to get them.
Kerouac, it must have really hit you to see all those places closed up as yet another distressing effect of the pandemic.
Casimira, that set of events really is a personal trauma and the kind of thing that lingers in the mind. I can well imagine you have been stressed by it. Good for you for taking a strong stand.

Bixa, I routinely get my groceries delivered by the Asda supermarket. They are very good but they are pretty basic, I get 'special' stuff from M&S luxuries really. I last went to an M&S store in November, and they haven't offered delivery of their food until they partnered up with ocado a few months ago. I've been trying to get a delivery slot since before Christmas! It was Russell's turn to order the groceries this week, I should have given him a list but forgot so basically he ordered crisps, biscuits, chocolate, sweets and fizzy drinks.

Casimira, I hope the situation gets solved. My sister in law asked my bro to stop seeing some friends, who were actually bikers, drunkards and celibates. He was pissed off at the time but quite relived later that she opened his eyes. Just explain well to your man 🥰🥰

Thank you Whatagain for your words of support. I do believe that I got my point across loud and clear. I have a fairly high tolerance for some alcohol fueled behavior but, I have zero tolerance for it when it interferes with my peace of mind in my own home, my sanctuary. One of the best moves we made some 25 years or so ago was to put a wrought iron fence with a locked gate. Psychologically it makes me feel more secure as well as the actual physical barrier. Congrats on your wellness regimen! I do hope that you feel a difference.

My OH raised an eyebrow when he saw the box Are you not in charge of the family purse strings? Or has he been begging you to get them for ages? I think you are a lady who knows exactly what she wants and will get it! Am I right or wrong Cheery?

He raised an eyebrow because of the brand name an empty promise if ever he saw one..my days I swinging from the chandeliers are well and truly gone... As for the family purse strings..whilst not being extravagant or unreasonable.... I don't stint if I REALLY at something

Now that Peugeot-Citroën and Fiat-Chrysler have merged, the following car companies are all the same: Citroën, DS, Opel, Peugeot, Vauxhall, Abarth, Alfa Romeo, Chrysler, Dodge, Fiat, Jeep, Lancia, Maserati, Mopar, Ram and SRT. It seems to me that there would be so much money saved and so much more efficiency if they crunched these down to about 4 types of vehicles under just one name. Yes, I know that that is not how capitalism works.

Yup. Something you totally miss out is that car purchases include a huge emotional part. Don't ask how it works, i don't get it either but i had a lengthy discussion by a guy working for a car company. Looks, colour etc play a big role when somebody buts a car.

Maybe that's true for most people, Whatagain, but there are people like me who think of cars as boxes on wheels which take you from one place to another. Admittedly, sometimes I get attached to a car after I've had it for a while, or feel nostalgia for dumb stuff like the smell of a really old VW bug.

Looks, colour etc play a big role when somebody buts a car. I think when one is spending such huge money you have got to love the vehicle. I have just sold my Land Rover Discovery Sport as the Vehicle Maintainance contract came to an end. It was white with a black roof. Dozens around in those two-tone colours. I'm now without a car until the right one comes along. Can't be any colour except silver grey or white. Nothing else will do. I don't really mind the make except for a few daft names that Renault make. The only Renault name I could drive would be a Megane - Definitely not a Kwid or a Duster. Please please! With so many choices could they not find something more appealing?!

We are thinking of buying a Duster for our daughter 😆 We rented one once and it is a good car. No gadgets, no nonsense, it does the job. I remember once going to the garage to pick up my *company* car. It gave something like : - good evening, my name is Whatagain, our secretary told me i could pick up my car - certainly, what car ? - a Sharan - yes, but what colour ? - err, forgot - ? What motorization ? Horsepower ? - err, no idea - ? Manual or automatic ? - i think manual - *sigh* After a shoort while the guy says the car is not ready. He suggests i come the day after. - a Saturday ? No way, i have better things to do. On monday i can't, ... thursday it will be. The guy couldn't believe his ears.

Whatagain - she will have a very good car in a Duster. I have heard many good reports. I do not know much about it for my needs but I can say all I'm really interested in is a car that is virtually built like a tank to protect me when a crazy boozed or drugged up Kombi (people carrier taxi) hits me full on. They are a 'dont care' lot of drivers mostly without licenses. Hit me by all means, but let the vehicle protect me as much as possible.
