Hair grip

That term seems so tense, so final even.

It does at least describe what it is.
Bobby pin doesn’t convey anything.

And two Bobby pins criss-crossed over a “pin curl” was how women set their hair for awhile.

Both my neighbour and I had 4 children. So we only lost 25pc of our children. Negligible. We can still lose 2 actually. Let us roll. I apologize whatagain - and anyone who has lost a child - for my flip-sounding comments. My parents both lost siblings in childhood. Mom had three stillborn brothers (25% survival rate) and Dad lost a brother (80%). Losing babies or young children was a fact of life for almost every family, not that long ago. Just walk through any old graveyard and look at tombstones documenting many deaths from scarlet fever or “Spanish” influenza.. These tragedies are far less common today, but arguably more tragic, in part because of the much smaller family size in recent decades.

Kimby - No apology needed. We lost our baby daughter 6 days before her 2nd birthday. You never forget but you do get over it. I feel very sorry for parents who cannot get back to life in general. They seem to think it means they have forgotten or don't care. Nothing could be further from the truth and I do admit here and now that had she been our only child, it would have been far more difficult. But we had her brother who deserved parents who were not always grieving.

Kimby I am the one who should apologize. I was hurt, but i chose the worst way to express my feelings. Some days i feel the pain so much that sometimes i behave like a prick. Sorry.

Whatagain, you were NOT a prick. But I might have been. Virtual hugs to all those grieving lost loved ones. Which is MOST of us. I just glad my parents weren’t around to learn of their youngest’s death. Even though she was 62 years old, it still would’ve gutted them.

Will your bank replace it Mick? The company who scammed me have said they will return it within 10 days but according to reviews that is very unlikely. In that event my bank will pursue it for me.

I have been scammed pirated twice (once for 2500 euros!) but both times I was refunded before even being debited at the end of the month.

Yikes sorry re that Mick - it seems just so much of a problem lately. I have had so many scamming messages I read them at least x3 before responding ( or not).
Thank you for the explanation re Bobby Pins - yes I would call it a hair grip too. Either way not something that should be shoved into an electrical socket methinks .
Going back to the scam theme but on a different tangent the other thing that has become a really big problem here in England is the stealing of dogs. It is heart rending reading some of the posts where this has happened. A couple of weeks ago an elderly neighbour of one of my friends had her dog taken ... the thieves came into her home and took the dog, nothing else . This was in a ( normally) low crime , rural neighbourhood. The woman is distraught.

That is what it is generally called when your card has been debited by surprise. Scammed refers to being swindled, meaning you were tricked.

England is the stealing of dogs. Oh No! That is absolutely awful. horrible people. And two Bobby pins criss-crossed over a “pin curl” was how women set their hair for awhile. My mother used to do this a lot Kimby! I have noticed recently that she puts one in her hair to hold it back because it is longer than usual due to COVID and it looks very good, I have even been on-line looking for decorative ones that would be age appropriate.

Hair grips..I used to hate them. My sisters and I had very long, thick hair as children and every morning Mother would drag a comb through our tangled locks and tightly plait it...kirby grips were used to staple stray hairs in place ...it was a painful experience I remembe my 2 plaits being so tight that they stretched the skin of my face... I bought some hair grips during the first lockdown to try to organise my mad hair..but I couldn't bring myself to use them...they're still in the packet! Congratulations to your son and his partner Mick. I'm sory that you were scammed and I hope that you get your money back without too much hassle.

When I was scammed the money was sent to Lithuania by Western Union, then back to Mumbai (Again W U ) and some bought a handbag in New York. Because the use of W.U. the money had passed through 3 hands and was unable to be retrieved. AUD 600 lost to the bad guys and a feeling of shame and fear for me.

England is the stealing of dogs. Here there have been occurrences of this. The sickening part is they say the dogs are used for illegal dog-fighting, even the little ones.

Although I do not approve of my neighbours thinking that I will always be at their disposal for appointments they make and cannot keep, I do approve of early workers, and the appointment was set for 08:00. However, the electrical technician for the building showed up at 07:35. Luckily I was already dressed and ready for him, but only just.

The only expression that I know for that in English is the silly one: "The early bird catches the worm." As though the worm was going somewhere!
