It's odd that this subject came up right after I talked to my sister the other day. She was telling me that she found a bunch of the letters I wrote her, & we were reminiscing about how something that used to be so common has almost disappeared.

Not only have letters become uncommon, so has handwriting. I write so rarely now that I feel clumsy when I have to do so. I do type fast though!

Most of those letters to my sister were written on an electric typewriter. I owned that because my handwriting is terrible, plus it always frustrated me that I couldn't write as fast as I thought. Typewriters (& now computers) take care of that little problem.

Neither did I. There or at Max Dormoy... nobody ! But I thought of you. I slept there... close to Saint Placide.

I can tell you are not a local by calling it Max Dormoy instead of Marx Dormoy. But you can be forgiven because every Parisian who lives more than one kilometre away tends to call it Max Dormoy. Yesterday at the postal bank, I had to get 75 pages of documents corrected (because I am obsessive about this) because the remote financial advisor wrote everything wrong before transmitting the documents by conference call in my agency. Lucky for him, the name did not appear on every page. He also had to correct my own first name every time it appeared -- you can easily imagine the mistake he made there.

Whatagain that looks a like a very nice elegant hotel. Probably far too expensive for my tastes but I would like to know the name if possible?

One of those days, maybe today, Robin has been dead longer than he has been alive.
I hate maths as some days they have the power to hurt.

Losing your beautiful boy has to be a hurt that will never heal & I guess all kinds of things remind you constantly.

Yesterday we had to go to a funeral in a village in the foothills of the Pyrenees. On the way, we stopped in Navarrenx for a break. There were a lot of tourists even though it is a pretty small place. I was interested to learn that in 1790, it was an important place, given how small it is now. Lots of fortifications too. Video here for anyone interested: www.ville-navarrenx.fr/visite-virtuelle-de-navarrenx Scroll down to the video.

Absolutely superb. There might be also a philosophy of life in your story. You go to a funeral but manage to save the day by visiting a jewel and telling others about it. Thanks.

The "Rainbow Bridge" comes from the Land of Godawful Poetry, English-language version. Authors of various versions hailed from both sides of the Atlantic; I've never heard it in any other language I speak or understand, but ghastly poetry is universal. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rainbow_Bridge_(pets) I warned people at a petcare site I used to visit NEVER to refer to it when Renzo died at 20 1/2. There is a Rainbow Bridge at Niagara Falls (NY and ONT) which straddles the US and Canadian sides. Just due to the rainbow effect caused by all the water vapour. Not a reference to the countless humans and other beings who have died for millennia by falling in the river upstream.

SHHH, I don't want to tempt the bad luck goblins. The deal is what I have been trying to achieve for nearly 3 years. You see, since my little dog died 3+ years ago I have been searching for another small pooch to share my life. The onset of COVID sent hundreds of families to all the rescued dogs and small dogs were snapped up like juicy bones at a barbecue. I have lost count of the long questionnaires I filled in and the 2 week waiting times for results had me going spare. Then last Friday...a little Maltese named Sophie was displayed...happy and healthy, not a single negative trait, wrapped up like a baby and her eyes saying "What's with the sausage roll?" I did the form and answered the questions and read up on Maltese characteristics and hoped. Got a call from the foster mother last night, the carers think I would be a good match and appointments have been made for house check and fences inspection. Wish me luck and I will keep you posted.

Wonderful Questa! I have had 4 Maltese poodles and they all lived to a grand old age of 25yrs. My tip is keep the pooch groomed - clip the hair short. Have a wonderful time with her. They bring so much joy as this breed is almost human.
