Alec Baldwin kills a photographer and wounds a producer of his movie Rust whilst firing a gun, loaded with live ammo.
At minima, someone was careless at his job or at worst knew what he was doing.

The advantages of having relatives in a small country when you hit a snag with information needed from a government department on a Monday when you only find out you need it on the Sunday before (i.e. this afternoon) - Mrs M phones someone. This person is 'related' in the way that the aunt of her mother had a second husband who has a grand daughter from his first marriage who's husband has a niece - and the problem is explained to her. The reason she was contacted is because information came via some other branch of the family that she might know someone who can help. The niece contacts the aunt of her husband who's deceased husband had a nephew who's wife - contacted her (Mrs M) back an hour or so later and who just so happens to work in that government department and has said she will sort it out first thing in the morning. Not to worry.
I may have mixed up the relations a little but if anything, I've made it more simple. I gave up listening on the third time of explanation of who is who.

Oh you made me see the wood for the trees Mark!! If it wasn't for what we call "the Bush telegraph" peoples problems and solving them would come to a dead stop. A perfect example is my sons partner. She is a beautician with her own salon. She attends to many doctors and rich men's wives and believe me it has paid off when expert immediate medical attention or a hospital bed was needed immediately.

Going to Richelieu this week end. A small, old, beautiful town in the Loire.

Tod, we drove into Zimbabwe a few years ago at the height of the petrol shortage there. Eventually we were able to get some when a trainee at Mrs M's office contacted her hairdresser who had a husband who worked at a petrol station who asked his boss if we could come and fill up.

'Flippin heck! To add to my son's partner beauty therapist story.....she just rang me to say she has got me three months supply of the tablets our dog has to take for her itchy skin. The vet makes me go there every 30 days. And I got them at a discounted price.....gosh I love knowing someone, who knows someone, who can deliver the goods!

I've had experiences like that before.
And it isn't all that different from our last meal in Paris where they were slowly but surely getting the restaurant ready for the next day, sweeping the floor, locking the door and assuring us that they were not in a hurry and we didn't need to leave immediately.

There is a restaurant in La Cala, Spain, now called Albahaca, well known to us and also our old friend Amboseli,
In it’s early days the restaurant area was also part of the owners living area and being the last there (we were staying above) we finished the evening with the owners watching a Spanish quiz show a which we did pretty well!

Ditto...it's bad enough that the stores are already making room for the "C" stuff in place of the nursery plants that are supposed to be there in their place.

I think i can sleep now. Walls are made from paper and my neighbours have just finished making love. I hesitated punching the wall, then decided against and leave them alone.

That sounds about as embarrassing as the hotel my mom and I stayed in, when on holiday in London. The room walls were some kind of plaster board not bricks. I pretended nothing was heard but my mom mentioned "funny noises" coming from either a room above or below or on either side. I gave her my innocent "didn't hear a thing" look. The last time mom and I had a discussion over sexual matters was when I was around 10 yrs old And that was bad enough...!

I had that experience in a hotel in Sète once. Actually the first round was just funny and of porn movie quality. But in the middle of the night, he wanted to do it again and his girlfriend was having none of it. Her rejection was so radical that I was amazed that they went back to sleep in the same bed.

I seem to remember reading somewhere that the Queen's technique, when someone else's phone rings, is to say "You'd better answer it, it might be somebody important!” The Kimbys were attending a symphony when it was interrupted by the loud ringing of a cell phone. The conductor dropped his arms, turned around and said “Tell them we’re busy!” Then went right back to it.

I enjoyed a cute report on the news today about the French winner of the biggest ever Euromillions jackpot -- 220 million euros. It is a young Tahitian woman, playing for the very first time. Unlike many winners who might express a desire to go to a place like Tahiti, she said that her dream trip is to go somewhere with snow, something she had never seen before.
