I don't mind eye tests, but absolutely will never want to wear contact lenses.

I absolutely love, love, love my contact lenses. I’ve been a user for 35 years and dread the day I’ll need to wear glasses.
Good to hear you had such a great report, Mick

I'm sure you've all been concerned as to how I'm getting on with my unsupported trans-Polar expedition, Tod especially. After reaching McMurdo Sound I decided it was just too damn cold so moved to my plan B of a ramble along the south coast of Spain. I am now approx a third of the way through and having a "rest" day in Malaga. There is a connection with penguins though in that I am eating a lot of fish.
If anything life threatening or exciting happens, like I get a blister, you'll be the first to know.

I am pleased by the outcome of the Australian election. Of course, the proof will be in the actions of the new government.

Not to interrupt your post Mark and Kerouac but I wanted to chime in on the posts about eye exams etc.
I'm with you Mick on hating eye exams. Most especially when they have to dilate your pupils. Actually, anything probing around my eyes makes me anxious. Which is why I agree with Kerouac about not ever tolerating contact lens. I just can't imagine having to put a "foreign" object on my eyes. I don't like putting drops in my eyes either.
I am envious in a way of people who have contacts and enjoy the benefits of them.

I am pleased by the outcome of the Australian election. Of course, the proof will be in the actions of the new government. Yes, Kerouac, Ripper of a result, What caused the fun was that in all electorates the voters had deserted the Big official Parties and voted for Greens and various worthy causes. Environmental issues led the night and the major parties were caught napping. The economy is doing well with low unemployment and big spenders knocking on doors. The big change for me was seeing how many young women are MPs now. I think we are in for an interesting time during the next 3 years,

3 years is a fairly short term, but let's hope that the new Australian government and especially the newly-elected independents manage to get make some changes in climate action.

I have noticed a lot of closures as I've been here. This one was busy and presumably has done ok. The Irish pub next door was full as well. Maybe as it's a Saturday but don't know.

I am giddy with excitement - my son is getting married on Thursday and after umpteen tries I finally have a dress that I like and that I feel comfortable in so now I can look forward to it with even more excitement. it is not a traditional wedding and I am part of the ceremony helping with the hand fasting ...its being held in the New Forest and fingers crossed the weather forecast looks good.

Oh, that is extremely exciting, Lugg. I have no doubt the mother of the groom will be lovely and glowing, too. The only bad part of your being part of the ceremony is that it will severely hamper your picture-taking. Wonderful occasion -- congratulations all around.

After Lugg dropped the word handfasting into the conversation, I had to look it up:
How Do You Perform a Handfasting Ceremony?
Imagine standing up at the altar, prepared to exchange vows and tie the knot. The term 'the knot' actually originates from the handfasting ceremonies! As Collins explains, the officiant or minister will tie knots around the couple's hands, wrists and arms. Because there is no 'right' way to do this, the duo getting hitched can decide what works for their personal preference. "There are several ways to wrap the hands during the ceremony. It can be as simple as wrapping around a single knot to tying them into a stunning infinity knot," Collins continues. "Your officiant should be able to help you decide which is best for you."
Following the tying of the knot, couples may choose to leave the cords on for the remainder of their ceremony, or remove their hands and continue with the service.
In some other instances, Bethel Nathan, an ordained officiant, says couples actually tie their own knot. And other versions don't use a knot at all, but rather wrap a single, long ribbon or cord around their joined hands. Some of her couples choose to include important people, like parents, in helping to wrap the ribbons around their joined arms. Other times, she's the only one participating. Since wedding traditions are created when two people decide they're important, you get to guide this Scottish unity ritual.
