Well, there you are, Questa!
I knew you'd logged on several times with your three handles, so was not worried about you but did wonder about your silence.

Several things kept me from posting *Everthing takes so much more time now - it is like having16 hours to a full day, my legs and hands dance a fast jiggle for a lot of the time which spawns typos here like a swarm of mosquitos. i can't correct them all so if you can understand it...it stands. i have had many visits to various specialists who congratulate me for staying alive...thats what it seems like, anyway! past midnight... gotta go...more later

I really did very little except to encourage Questa, although I did have some additional suggestions in case that didn't work.

I just discovered I have an old album of Tintin. Well several. The edition of Tintin au Congo I have from my father is worth 1500 euros in good condition. Mine is not good but not too bad either.

I used to love TinTin, it was regularly shown on childrens' tv when I was a little girl. I liked The Magic Roundabout too..but hated Hector's House.
My favourite British entertainment for children was Noggin the Nog...could take or leave Captain Pugwash.

Just out of interest... Do you peel your kiwi fruit before you eat them? A chum told me that kiwi fruit eaten with the peel 'keeps you regular'. Whilst I have no problems in this area I'm just washing, topping and tailing kiwi fruit and munching them with the skin on...

I eat my kiwis like a boiled egg : with a spoon until only the peel is left, which i then throw away.

I do not eat the skin of a kiwi. Either I peel them or I eat them with a spoon.

They seem too fuzzy for peel eating.

Like the others, I either peel and slice them or eat them with a spoon, but don't eat the skin.

I can see how the peel would act like sandpaper on the intestines, though.

OK - This is how I have learned to soften the pain of peeling those hairy/fuzzy little critters... I first lob off either end saving as much flesh as possible.....sometimes they want a sharp paring knife dug into the harder end and cored like a tomoto, Then I slice three thick slices peel on. Next step is to slash a a slit in the peel and get the knife to go around as close to the peel as possible. Some allow one to pull the peel off like a ribbon but mostly have to cut with a sharp knife. In thee slices you will be all ready to enjoy. No way am I eating the peel!

I'm off to Paisley in August to visit my niece she moved there in May to be near her brother. I announced to my husband and son that I'd be away for at least 4 days. There was a stunned silence, but I'm sure that they'll cope. I'm hoping to get to the Banksy exhibition at the museum of modern art in Glasgow. I've not been away since before covid so I'm quite excited...

Re Tin Tin...I have 3 T shirts...TT in the Cambodian Jungle, TT in the Plain of Jars (Laos)and TT and the Blue Lotus (Vietnam).
Re Kiwi fruit...Each season the bigger markets are visited by reps who demonstrate eating the fruit. They hand out strong plastic teaspoons and show how to hold the fruit in a cupped palm of the hand as you scoop out the flesh in dollops. It's said not to use metal as it changes the flavour.

I would love to see an image of that Kerouac. What a treasure.
On another note, I'm not sure if it's just media hype here but I keep hearing about riots in France in different cities but have not seen any posts or reports on here about it.

We have actually had five days of riots all over France. The reason I have not mentioned the subject is because even though it was along the lines of a George Floyd police problem, it immediately turned into a teen episode of "let's see how much we can loot and trash public buildings!" Nike, Apple, Sephora and various clothing chains have been the main targets, so it has mostly been just "free shopping."
I just don't really know what to say about it, but it seems to be coming to an end.

From what I have read from different sources a boy of 17 was driving a car , drive dangerously and was asked to pull over. He stopped then restarted. There are then 2 versions. One says the cop fired because was feeling endangered. The second that the cop had drawn his pistol, was on the side of the car and fired when the boy restarted. Seems a video attests this version. The boy was apparently known for not obeying. So how come he was driving a car at 17 and why didn’t he obey the cops ?
As for the riots I would side with Kerouac. In these riots you have a minority coming for the root cause and the rest to have ‘fun’ in destroying and stealing.
What I also find utterly disgusting is JL Mélenchon immediately violently criticising the police. He could wait for the inquiries to state the facts.

Just to add to what Kerouac and Whatagain have said, it has once again blown up from an unfortunate incident where a young guy (too young for a licence driving a Mercedes and stopped after a 20-minute car chase) being shot. Of course, he did not deserve to die at a traffic stop and the French police are known for being trigger-happy and particularly for stopping young men who look Arab or Black. Most of the problems have been in the difficult suburbs of big cities.
However, thanks to social media and loudmouths like Mélenchon, this has spiralled out of control, young people are setting fire to public buildings like city halls and post offices and schools, burning cars and looting. Public transport in towns around Paris have not been running at night because buses and trams were being set on fire.
I just heard a British professor of French history interviewed and he said that 1) French society is becoming more violent (riots over pension reform, the yellow vests...) and police unions are becoming even more right wing. Speaking of the right wing, the far right is calling for a state of emergency to be declared.

Just driven down from Germany to Spain. Stopped off in Nancy and Avignon. Large police presence in the evenings and many places closed after about 7pm.

Until further notice, all bus and tram service must stop everywhere in the country by 21:00, so that is a major hindrance in most medium sized cities to nighttime activities. Metro and train services remain normal.
Anyway, the situation has mostly come to an end.

Which proves the French are better than Russians. In Russia it takes a general making a coup to create chaos and threat of riots and civil war. In France a 17 years old suffice.

We were in Bayonne on Friday night and there were buses running after 9pm. It must also be said that nothing much happened in Bayonne other than some young kids putting a rock through a post office window but they were caught right away.
The third young guy who was in the car finally turned himself in yesterday, after having run away to Marseille and giving a news interview on Sunday. Of course, he confirmed everything that had been said before -- that the policeman hitting the driver in the head made him take his foot off the brake and set the car moving forward. Do automatic cars move if you don't step on the gas?

Thé 2 cops had drawn their gun. Looks more and more like it is a case of trigger happy cops and a wannabe tough gangster. In French it is called une ‘bavure’. An unfortunate chain of events leading to an unhappy ending.
