Will have to look.up what tongue tied means, i understand the words 🤪 but cannot imagine what it is. Just like me. I know the idiomatic expression but do not know what the physical condition is.

A babies tongue is attached to the floor of the mouth by a strong membrane. Usually the attacing point is about 1/2 way up the tongue so the tongue can curl into the floor of the mouth and bub can suckle well. In olden days it wa consided a problem and doctors would snip the membrane (ouch) to freee the tongue. Nowadays it is accepted as normal and doesn't give any troubles. I have only seen 2 babies in 40+ years that needed a snip and their membranes were almost joined to the lip. It was also blamed for lisps, dribbling and any other variation that nervous relatives could worry the parents with.

Thanks for the explanation, questa!

Thank you Questa, I should have thought about putting an explaination. Our granddaughter was booted out of the hospital 5 hours after the baby was born, they don't stand on ceremony these days. Routine follow up care is pretty rubbish now too, just one post partum visit from the community midwife! My generaton had a very different experience (before Thatcher and Blair got their dirty hands on the NHS) with proper wrap around care. Not enough trained staff to go around. Sorry.

The most dangerous place for a newborn is in a hospital...ditto for the mother. The place is knee deep in horrid bugs and the general circus of noise is not good for either. The ideal is 1 deliver, 2 shower 3 go home and let everyone else do the work. I will tell you how it is done in Bali when I have more time.

So glad Torben is now settled into his feeding - Enzo had the same problem with tongue tie as well - fortunately spotted by a midwife before things became too fraught. Reminds me of ancient history - midwives sometimes kept one fingernail very long and then doctors intervened; fascinating history !!
Anyway back to Mark ...enjoy your adventurous naked swimming ---looking forward to the photos !! But on a more serious note do you know yet where Mrs M's next posting will be ?

No photos Lugg, sorry, don't want to get the camera wet. As for the posting, all we can do for now is keep and eye on the length of contract others have in certain countries and see if that may be at an end when Mrs M's does in Germany. When I say length of contract, she and others have an unlimited contract but there is a restricted length in any one country. One downfall/change is that employees can save up for a sabbatical as they work but that has now changed such that you can only do so whilst working in Germany and not abroad. This for some makes working abroad less attractive now, which could be a plus for us concerning choices, but also bad for earning the time off whereas we always could do before the change.

That seems most unfair. It's as though the company decided that working abroad is your vacation.

I had the same thought. A friend who is going to Madagascar for three years will be receiving triple retirement benefits and double salary as well as housing. When he was in Guatemala for three years, the benefits were not as good, so Madagascar must be pretty grim.

I remember reading something recently about foreign workers being kidnapped but cannot find the link now.

Everybody knows that Madagascar is beautiful with strange flora and fauna, but it is also one of the poorest countries in the world. When you are based in Antananarivo, security is primordial.

Do you ever get sick and tired of travelling? I must admit that stepping off a plane in my hometown sometimes makes me feel like I want to kiss the tarmac and swear "Never-more"
But then I get itchy feet again...

I have breaks so no. When I led expeditions without any break of more than about a week or two (but still had work to do on the vehicle and admin, though I was in one place) and then constant movement for several months, then yes.

In addition to the chart showing the percentage of stars a product received, Amazon now has a précis of how the reviews played out. Here is an example, from the reviews on a cookbook:
Customers say Customers find the recipes in the book delicious and easy to follow. They also say the book keeps well in the fridge.
AI-generated from the text of customer reviews

I have the feeling I was playing Monopoly and got Chance ´Bank made a mistake in your favour and refund you of. ‘
Our plane was canceled when we were returning from London. bae put us on the next flight and we landed 3 hours and 10 min after originally planned. Our daughter filled in the forms and got a refund of 1200 euros
We had had to reserve another car and were told our first reservation would be refunded. My wife never believed it but we filled other forms and got refunded.
We got our payroll for our taxes. In Belgium you pay by anticipation then they adjust. We will get a refund.
I finally made my expenses - got refunded.
I had a problem with my lunch tickets - I get vouchers of 7€ per day (or is it 10 ? - that I work and I can use these only for food. They go on a card that for some reasons didn’t work anymore Since it took me 3 months or more to solve the issue I had 600 € on the card. Just spent 200 at supermarket - feels like it is for free.
So some money comes from nowhere some was kind of forced savings but it is nice to see it on our bank account. Perfect timing since we go on holiday in 2 weeks.

When luncheon vouchers were changed in France from paper tickets to a smart card, a lot of children felt cheated because many parents would give their vouchers to their children to use at McDonald's or whatever. Beggars also feel cheated because they used to be given some of the luncheon vouchers too.

I just spent 20 minutes on the phone with the electricity company. For the second time this year our contract was cancelled without our asking for it. I only find out when I get the cancellation email. It's at our apartment in Bayonne so it's hard to know whether someone moved and made a mistake with the meter number or what. This time at least the person on the line put a note in our file to warn in case it happens again.
I think the fact that everything can be done online or by phone now just adds to mistakes and problems. The first person I had on the line (yes, there were two separate ones!) told me there are more and more problems with contracts being started or cancelled in mistake.

We were asked by our EDF to pay the bill of the former tenant who died 2 years before we bought the house. They asked me to get in touch with her…
I told them she was cremated and I would do the same with their invoice.

The father of a close friend had a café. It was on the ground floor of a building that was otherwise abandoned, but it slowly filled with squatters who hooked into his electrical connection. Since squatters are not huge users of electricity, it took him more than a year to realise that his bill was not normal. One of the squatters was even a famous serial killer, Guy Georges, who killed 21 people even if he was only convicted of 7 of them. He has been eligible for parole since 2020 but has not requested it because he thinks he deserves to spend the rest of his life in prison. He is only 61 years old so that could be a long time. Of course it is unlikely that he would ever be granted parole anyway.

I actually got a text message 3 hours later telling me the contract was cancelled. So I called again, learned that it had been restored properly but the woman this time told me to check that the bill is actually connected to our meter. I said I wasn't in Bayonne. But what is odd is that both times the bill has been cancelled by another supplier, not by a physical person.
The fêtes de Bayonne start this week so I'm definitely not going anywhere near the place. They have been advanced because all security forces will be needed in Paris for the Olympics.

Italy likes to honour its great men with airport names. After Fiumicino-Léonardo da Vinci in Rome, the main airport of Milan has just been renamed Milan Malpensa–Silvio Berlusconi.
