Mr Tod and I are on a new eating regime. Been doing it for three weeks now and I'm not kidding you - I feel years younger! In the book recently ordered online, called "Eat To Beat Disease" by world renowned scientist , Doctor William Li He tells us:
Your small intestine regenerates every two to four days. Your lungs and stomach, every eight days. Your skin every two weeks. Your red blood cells, every four months. Your fat cells , every eight years, And your skeleton, every ten years.

Mick thanks for asking. We are eating everything we love. Well now. that sounds like no change doesn't it. It works this way. We dont eat anything, no matter how good it is for you, if we don't like the taste, or the feel in the mouth. Blow me down, so far all the good things are delicious and what we just have neglected from our diets.
For a start we eat fruit everyday. Some has to be a stone fruit like a purple or red plum. Then carrying on the purple theme we consume a number of black grapes. Some Pomegranate seeds, a small red apple, blue berries, and last but most important of all the fruits - three kiwi fruits with every serving. . Now this bowl of fruit varies day to day. Sometimes a banana with a citrus fruit or mango. Today I bought melon to add to the variety. The main stress is on stone fruit and dark purple fruit. The kiwi is special. It has prebiotic effects that shape beneficial gut bacteria and lower inflammation.
Then we have gone onto gluten free everything. And drinking a cup of Soy Milk every morning for Mr. Todd. Adding to our food we are experiencing new tastes like Kimchi and Sauerkraut. These are wonderful to get our gut into shape. What I like best of all is that Beer, Red wine and coffee are a must in this diet.

A lot of that sounds pretty terrible (I really just mean "excessive"). If anybody had ever found the perfect diet for everyone, it would be worldwide front page news by now.

I have trouble believing the claims of diet books, etc. but your eating regime does sound interesting & healthful, Tod.

Maybe I should not have used the word "Diet" because its not. It is merely introducing good whole foods into our "diet" instead of the harmful, overloaded with salt & sugar foods. And of course we don't eat all this selection of foods all in one day or week. Its merely a choice of some of the foods out there that do some good.
Mossie, an apple a day is no false health claim. And the red wine is a must. Beer too. And Coffee plus dark chocolate.

Does the apple-a-day thing necessarily have to be an apple, or is it a general counsel to eat fruit?
I am currently gorging on mangoes. The manila mangoes are in season and people pass through neighborhoods selling them from their car trunks. The most recent batch was 25 pesos for 2 kilos.

How lucky you are! I love mangoes. I only buy them in late summer and early fall when they are imported from southern Spain. Those from far away are rarely ripe. Are manila mangoes the small orange ones or the big reddish ones?

True about being lucky, Bjd. Every time I eat one, I marvel at their divine deliciousness. The manilas are yellow & medium sized. I'm looking forward to the ataulfos, my favorites. Here are the two manilas on my kitchen counter right now. photos.app.goo.gl/d3qwgzS9CdkECzf68

Does the apple-a-day thing necessarily have to be an apple, or is it a general counsel to eat fruit? I am currently gorging on mangoes. OK - my information on mangoes comes from the Eat To Beat Disease book. ( Scientically written so I do not doubt its findings.) MANGOES: Mangoes can be eaten raw, cooked, dried or pickled. Commonly found in the cuisines of Southeast Asia and Latin America. Although they have many bioactive carotenoids that give the flesh its orange colour, mangoes contain a unique bioactive called mangiferin that has anti-tumour, anti-diabetic, and pro-regenerative properties. In lab animals, mangiferin has been shown to improve blood sugar control by actually regenerating the beta-islet cells of the pancreas that produce insulin Scientists from the Sichuan Academy of Medical Science, the Sichuan Provincial Peoples Hospital, Sichuan University, and the People's Hospital of Leshan in Southwestern China found that mangiferin could increase insulin secretion in mice by increasing the number of beta-islet cells in the pancreas by 67% and by activating genes for regeneration and insulin production. Other scientists have shown mangiferin can stimulate bone regeneration. APPLES: The varieties of apples available can be dizzying. The ones with the highest levels of health-promoting polyphenols are Granny Smith, Red Delicious and the Reinette.

Being a diabetic, i have been warned against eating an apple, or most fruits, unless accompanied by yogurt. Eating alone gives a sudden surge of sugar.

One thing I learned not too long ago is that a glass of fruit juice has just as much sugar, and sometimes more, than the popular sodas against which we are warned because of their sugar content.

I was dubious about apples and sugar levels because there is an enormous amount of fibre in an apples, so did a Google search and found this statement:
"Do apples cause a spike in blood sugar? Apples score relatively low on both the glycemic index (GI) and the glycemic load (GL) scales, meaning that they should cause a minimal rise in blood sugar levels (10). Apples have a minimal effect on blood sugar levels and are unlikely to cause rapid spikes in blood sugar, even in those with diabetes."
On the otherhand I know from past experience with dieting for weight loss, that fruit juice even if it is unsweetened, can be a problem.
Whatagain, maybe the advice is to make doubly sure the sugar in fruit will be very slowly released.

Thanks so much for that information on mangos, Tod -- I had no idea they were so good for me! a glass of fruit juice has just as much sugar, and sometimes more, than the popular sodas Not surprising, since it takes @3 medium sized oranges to make 8 oz/236.6 ml of orange juice. But sugar from fresh fruit is handled differently by the body from the way it deals with refined, manufactured sugars. www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/325550

Fruit is pouring into this country from places like Israel, Greece, Kenya and lots more places. This has brightened up my daily fruitbowl which mostly looks like this: The Kiwi fruit is very expensive but is a wonderful for the "microbiome" of your gut. This is such a cute explanation of gut bacteria to keep us healthy: tinyurl.com/3545zece

In French, there are two different concepts of rivers. A "rivière" is what flows into a bigger river. It is an "affluent." A "fleuve" is a river the flows into the ocean, even if it is short. It collects various affluents on its way to the sea. (Americans will understand this when thinking about the Missouri and Mississippi rivers.)
This is not what I learned today.
What I learned is that the Seine is a fraud and it does not flow through Paris. On its way to the ocean, the Seine meets the Yonne, which is a bigger river. So the Seine at that point ceases to exist, and it is the Yonne that flows through Paris into the Atlantic. But the authorities "way back when" decided that the Seine is more important because its source is some sort of mystical Gallo-Roman place.
This will not cause a revolution, but it might earn some points late at night during some sort of drunken trivia battle.

I visited a company that builds machines that cut playcards for yhe biggest producer of cards. Packs of 52. The machine cuts 10.000 cards (did i understand correctly) by the minute. They have to deliver more than 10 such machines, replacing old ones.
