Well, here's a tradition that I've never adopted, although people into theme decorating and who mourn the passing of Christmas might find it compelling. This is the time of year that baby Jesus leaves the manger & gets dressed in fancy duds:

um......they are very pretty....and I'm sure that some people get a lot of pleasure out of making the beautiful clothes.

That reminds me of how they dress up the Mannekin Pis in Brussels at various times -- I know that the upcoming carnival season is one of those times.

Sorry I haven't commented on gushed over this thread yet - I've been away from high speed and unable to fully appreciate such photo rich threads. It's all great, but something about the dancers (#2 in 112) blew me away... (reposted for the page break)

And the reason sound and light shows on churches and other public buildings aren't such a big thing here in the US is that they haven't figured out how to rope off the public square and charge admission. If they can't MAKE money, they won't spend money!

And yet small French and other European towns learned long ago that lots of tourist money will be spent in a place that offers such a spectacle. You won't find these free shows in the big cities like Paris or Marseille or Toulouse which don't need to entice tourists to visit and eat and drink and buy.
