Granddaughter was quite cunning...she bought a load of plastic eggs to hide, each egg had one small sweet/chocolate inside so that the little ones didn't get too much of a sugar rush.

Those wonderful smiles, so good to see they've been preserved in photos.
That tie your great-uncle is wearing is something quite different.

A fine looking man. How horrible the accident must have been for your family, Mick.

It was one of those long forgotten disasters. They were fishing off the Dutch coast with many others when an enormous storm came out of nowhere and most of them sank with huge loss of life. I do have the Meteorologist report for that day somewhere,

Were they commercial fisherman?

Yes. All my father’s family were until my father who didn’t fancy it.

Your grandparents lost two sons at the same time? That is too sad to be borne.
What did your father do instead of fishing, Mick?
(and happy Fathers Day to you!)

They were from my great grandparents era but were more likely cousins. I’m not entirely sure but they weren’t sons.
My father was taken by his father on the fishing boat (smack) but spent most of the time seasick so that was the end of that. He left home and went to London and got a job in insurance.

Only me. And that was because I had no idea what to do when I left school. My interests were cricket and girls.

Well, I am disappointed that I cannot see today's solar eclipse due to heavy cloud cover. Nevertheless, I have this ray of sunshine my son sent me last night. It's my grandson (his son) prepping for eclipse viewing today in the dry lake outside of Las Vegas ~

I bet they had the perfect view! The southwestern US seemed like the place to be. NASA was live-streaming from New Mexico and the Weather Channel was broadcasting from Ely, Nevada.

The perfect perfect view is where my sister in Texas lives, directly under the path. That path Xs with the path of the big eclips in April of 2024. It's a tiny town, and people are converging on it from all over. One of my brothers & his wife are there today, too. I'm so jealous! Well, being in Nevada with little guy would be even better.
