kerouac, thanks for posting this for those of us who are interested, who "knew" her much less well than others here. She did have a fascinating life and looks very convivial in her photo. She impressed me during the brouhaha about Airbnb etc on Fodor's and TA. TA shut down those discussions but I was happy to see that Fodor's let it go on.
casimira, I know you would have if you could have, but I'm pretty sure you have other things on your mind at this moment. Stay safe.

I never knew her, but I am so encouraged to see here remembered here. That speaks so much for this forum of people - connected by the internet in the main ; of course in person for a few. Thank you K2.

Here is the obituary for Nukesafe, an Anyport member but much better known on travel forums like Fodor's or TA.

Wow, so much in common with my father, Korea, Lawrence Livermore, moving to Europe, Washington State roots. It's pretty likely my father knew this poster.

I did not want to post this under Free Clinic or Pet Peeves, so thought I would mention my son was admitted to Intensive Care in one of our local hospitals last night. He went on his own accord as lately he has not been well. He has always had a bad chest since school days but it seems it has got worse with age. To cut a long story short - and I do not know the exact diagnosis by the specialist yet - but has been told his heart is inflamed because it has been working overtime to compensate for lack of oxygen. I Googled the three conditions of heart inflammation but he could have any one of them. Anyway, he is in the right place, has NO. Covid, and as soon as the medication works we will know more.

I hope they will figure out exactly what's wrong, Tod, and that he'll soon be better and home again. Lucky too that all the ICU beds are not reserved for Covid patients.

You are all so awesome. I know we really take an interest in our Anyport family besides the poster of tidings forth with.. There has been some good news and that is his condition has improved for the better. My son is a stubborn little bugger. And when someone is so desperately ill, I think the body needs a degree of feistiness to overcome the worst.

Oh, Tod! Am only now seeing this distressing news about your son. In a way I'm glad I saw it late, because there is your later, better news to go with it. Is he still in intensive care? Hoping for even better news soon.

At least your son was able to get into an ICU before they fill up completely. I'm sure you know that South Africa has the best medical care on the continent, so it is another thing for which to be thankful.

Thank you everybody. I appreciate all your good wishes for his speedy recovery.
Good news is he was discharged from the Cardio ICU this morning - they are desperate for bed space - And is waiting to see a specialist that does chest/lungs/kidneys/liver etc. The waiting list to see him is a year!! How can you wait a year if you are desperately ill….? Anyway his Cardio specialist must have organised it somehow. They want to sort out his problem while he is in the hospital. Yesterday they took him to theatre for an Angiogram - the result was his heart is healthy, does not need a stent as no sign of blockages from blood staying in the heart too long, but one of the heart muscles is a little weaker than it should be but the Doc said its fixable without surgery. He tells us he feels great which is all we want to hear. Maybe after he has seen the other Doctor he might come home but he wants to stay until all is given the green light.
Yes indeed Kerouac, we have fantastic medical people here including dentistry.

Very good news, Tod, and of course you're hoping for even better news soon. From what you've told us about the hugely increased workload of dealing with materials for masks, etc., it sounds as though all of you have been working unceasingly for months now. Your son may well be feeling the result of pushing himself so hard for so long.

Gosh tod, you must have been beside yourself with worry. Good that your son is well enough to leave the ICU and that his condition can be treated without surgery. Take care sweet lady and I hope that your boy makes a full and rapid recovery xxx

You are all so kind. He s still in an ICU section for not critical patients - called The Green section. He has to wait another day as the specialist only returns from holiday tomorrow . In the meantime he is on medication to stimulate the muscle of the heart that is not working to full capacity. He has seen none of us since being admitted but that magic little device called a Cellphone allows us to talk face-to-face. He has had his laptop delivered to the ward so he can do some 'paperwork'…….sometimes that is better than languishing staring at the ceiling.
You are probably right Bixa - they, that's my son and his partner, come home exhausted after a day at work. They are doing everything as they don't want us contracting Covid because of our age. On the otherhand WE don't want them to get Covid because his health is seriously compromised . Catch 22...

There is almost never a way to satisfy every aspect of what we want -- good health, protection of others, getting work done, prosperity, happiness and goodness knows what else. Your family seems to be navigating these difficult waters as well as possible, tod.

Oh I bet he got some kind person to give him a good ride in that wheelbarrow! Those pump[kins look like the ones growing in a field opposite the Manson Aircraft Museum in Kent. I manage to find a few seed from a damaged pumpkin and they have given us quite a crop this year.
