Trust me, there is plenty of stress exacerbated by living next door to them. But I love them both dearly.

We just spent the weekend with our son and his kids. This is Aurore, who I mentioned was my birthday present back in January. She is now nearly 9 months old.

I love the way babies that age have that "why is everybody staring at me?" look on their face.

Now I'm wondering why blue eyes seem to be considered superior.

She and her 3 year-old brother both have blue eyes (like their father) and people who stop to talk always mention their eyes.

Well my home life is about to change quite dramatically for the next few weeks and maybe months. My sister is moving in with me at the weekend plus her youngest. We have not lived together since I was 18 and she was 16 - I know we will have lots of laughs but suspect there may be a few fireworks .

Oh dear, Lugg! That is going to be very different. As a person who adores living alone, I do feel for you. I love both my sisters and both my brothers, but I suspect a roommate situation with any one of them -- after an initial honeymoon period -- would end in one of us eating the other alive.
On the flip side, as I see what I wrote is quite pessimistic ~ one of my sisters has political beliefs which are the polar opposite of mine. We once spent two 12-hour periods in a car together and had a perfectly wonderful time, with lots of laughs and good conversation.
How old is the niece/nephew?

Wishing you the best of luck, Lugg. If the two of you can keep your sense of humor, and work at compromising, you may end up having a grand time.

That stare is not so much 'look at me' as it is 'World...let me look at you' She has already passed "sitting up 101" so there are many things to see now, Brain is considering why this blue thing goes 'honk' when I touch it...
A real Child of the Dawn...gorgeous

Thank you all for the compliments. Aurore is a cheerful little girl. She has mastered "standing up 101 holding onto tables, pant legs, chairs" too.
Lugg, is there a time limit to your sister's staying with you? Like Bixa, I have a sister whose ideas, especially politically, are completely different from mine, but we still get along in other ways. So it might work out alright for a while.

How old is the niece/nephew? Coming up to 22 and comes with a boyfriend ! Wishing you the best of luck, Lugg. Yup and thank you htmb - I will remind us both from time to time Lugg, is there a time limit to your sister's staying with you? Nope ....we both just have to hope that her new house build isn't too delayed Aurore is a cheerful little girl. She has mastered "standing up 101 holding onto tables, pant legs, chairs" too. She is just scrummy

Lugg I hope that you and your sister enjoy the time together!
We have had a few family members stay with us for extended times over the years. My brother a couple of times for months at a time. Once when he returned from University and had to establish himself, the second time, he accepted a new job in a city close to us but too far from his family so he stayed with us for 3 months and commuted daily. We had Mr. M.'s brother and his wife stay with us for 3 months while their house was being built. Also we had Mr. M.'s cousin for a couple of months after there was a fire in his apartment. It was an adjustment, that is for sure since we are very used to it being on our own but it helped that these instances happened when we were a lot younger. I was also working then as well so perhaps we did not see as much of each other.

Well then she isn't frigid. so good you said it twice Thank you Mich --gosh your house has been super busy over the years but I suspect that you are very welcoming. But so true , I think we may all have to adjust to each others quirks. read that & had to stop myself from running off and abusing some drugs &/or alchohol on your behalf!
