We are really happy and excited that we are able to accept an invitation for Christmas dinner this year! I have been asked to bring white wine. There will be turkey, stuffing, vegetable dishes and mashed potatoes. A traditional family gathering and meal, looking forward to it. We have mostly all just gotten over the cold/flu that is circulating so our hope is a healthy group!

I have my son his wife and Enzo plus my daughter coming for Xmas this year. I need to find a good , but easy vegetarian main for my DIL who does not eat meat. She does eat fish though but does not eat those ( yucky) plant substitute things. She will be able to eat all the accompaniments. Any ideas guys ? Not nut roast etc.

Would it be practical, instead of a separate main dish, to add a couple of non-meat,, protein-rich items that everyone might like? I'm thinking of something like a plateful of deviled eggs and a bowl of lentil salad.

And you can take it all to Mick's house, for an added side of snide!

I confess that if I were receiving vegetarians for a festive dinner, I would put them on the line and simply ask them what they want. If I could make it, I would, and if I couldn't I would simply buy it somewhere. If they dared to say "oh don't worry about me," then I wouldn't. They could eat the vegetables. In my experience most vegetarians will eat meat if they are hungry, just like anybody going off their diet. I realise that this isn't the place for that debate.

Missed your replies and laughing now at Bixa's and Mick's comments. Bixa - really good ideas for Boxing Day when the main is gammon , thank you . Anyway I have sorted it - she is having fish not sure how that will fit with the rest of the meal ( fish and yorkshire puds ? for eg. ) but hey ho. it will be what it is

I refuse to consider anybody who eats fish as a vegetarian.
