Just saw this nifty mapapp online, right on the heels of enjoying NYCGirl's day in Singapore. Anyone have more ideas on turning tedious layovers into time well spent?

If you have a stopover then contact the airline to see what they can offer. Some things can be free. Egypt Air for example used to offer a free tour in Cairo but now you have to pay for it via Karnak Tours - karnak.egyptair.com/en/packages-packages/package_cat/13But I also think that if the stopover is more than 6 hours you can get a free room at a nearby hotel, it always used to be. These things can also be done if you don't have a visa. Royal Jordanian have Zuwar for stopovers, a day at the Dead Sea is quite popular (paid, not free) - www.rj.com/en/what_zuwar.html?learn_morePaid or unpaid, available or not, they offers are often buried away somewhere. Never assume that if you have a long stopover you have to stay on an uncomfortable seat for hours on end in the transit area of an airport. Contact you airline and interrogate them about it. They don't always free and easily give up the goods to what you can get or are entitled to.
