Artist, scientist, mathematician, writer, musician- the list of titles used to describe Leonardo da Vinci goes on and on. Now we add "handbag designer" to that already impressive list. An Italian luxury handbag company has created a handbag based on a sketch by Leonardo da Vinci that historians say is over 500 years old. The bag, named "La Pretiosa," is displayed next to a replica of the sketch. This video that shows the craftsmanship that went into the product, from hand-embroidering the flourishing designs to hand-etching the brass handle. What will they think of next? Maybe the previous logo for the Manpower interim agency?

I want it. Not gonna happen. This may sound sour-grapesy, but it may help you assuage your longing -- it's not a shoulder bag & probably weighs a ton even empty. Lovely workmanship, though.

I was noticing how heavy it looks myself.

um... they could have used that design as the seat of a chair, couldn't they? It DOES look rather heavy. beautiful, but heavy.

You guys are right. That's why I'm not buying it. Far too impractical.

Lovely yes, but, as noted, impractical.
I have seen a lot of designer knock off handbags that seem to be very close to the real thing but, I'm never tempted to buy one.
I'm not really into fancy handbags/purses and prefer practical, sturdy ones with a shoulder strap.
I inherited a vintage lizard Gucci small handbag from my mother and used it a total of two times for a funeral and another time for a quasi formal occasion.
I ended up taking it to a consignment shop in NY where it had a much better chance of being sold. The store was all handbags and had a really good reputation. Despite what I said earlier about not being into designer bags, there were a couple of them that had exquisite craftmanship as well as being practical. I resisted a trade in and opted to leave it there as I really needed the money.
The bag eventually sold and I got a much needed check in the mail in very short order.
