tinyurl.com/GungHaggisFatChoyThe fusion between Chinese New Year and Burns Night has become something of a Vancouver tradition. This interview with its founder, Todd Wong (Toddish McWong) is just one of the many articles on the topic.

I'm all in favour of fusion holidays and have always loved the way that Hong Kong and Singapore transition seamlessly from Christmas to Chinese New Year.
I'm sure that there are plenty of other holidays that we could combine.

I am charmed right down to my melting pot socks! Todd Wong sounds like a great guy, too.
It would seem that if you went light on the oats, haggis filling makes perfect sense for wontons.
Have you ever been in Vancouver at the right time of year to attend, LaGatta?

Nope, I've been to Vancouver all of once. I believe the North American continent is actually wider at the point between here and there than in most of the United States - to say nothing of Mexico! I've only been to Vancouver to work at a conference there, so I didn't even get much of any tourism in - though of course I did get in some lovely Asian seafood, a world-class draw. I'd love to go; I have friends in Vancouver who have attended. This was very funny when a lass from Vancouver and I were studying in Perugia, Umbria, Italy. Some people asked if we knew each other! That would have been rather absurd even between a couple of major Italian cities, but I wonder if even Lisbon and Moscow are as far apart, in Europe. We had a good laugh. Yep, I just love Todd Wong. My only quibble was when someone tacked on "powwow" when Indigenous peoples' traditions were also included. It should have been the much more culturally specific potlatch, of the Northwestern Coast peoples of Canada and the US. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Potlatch And obviously all three of those diverse peoples would have been happy to feast on salmon!

I was supposed to go for the Burns night yesterday, in fact had booked a table(!), but then cancelled because of tonsillitis. Now I'll have to wait a whole year again.

I've been to one Burns night at a private party and it was great fun - especially the 'stabbing' of the Haggis! All that Hokus Pokus reciting before the dagger plunges in! No, I did not try the haggis......
