This is going around facebook: Care to wager a guess as to what it might be? This was the blurb under the picture posted to my page: Can You Guess What McDonald’s Food Item This Is? Say hello to mechanically separated chicken. It’s what all fast-food chicken is made – things like chicken nuggets and patties. In addition, the processed frozen chicken in the stores is made from it. Basically, the entire chicken is smashed and pressed through a sieve — bones, eyes, guts, and all. It comes out looking like this. There’s more: because it’s crawling with bacteria, it will be washed with ammonia, soaked in it, actually. Then, because it tastes gross, it will be reflavored artificially. Finally, since it is weirdly pink, it will be dyed with artificial color. People still eat this and feed it to their children! But for accuracy:

I was in a debate on another website recently about how McDonald's was wonderful (in its category) but the European chain Quick was horrible, inedible, serving "inedible mystery meat."
For some odd reason, all of the people saying this were American expats.
Naturally, even though I have nothing against McDo as an emergency hunger solution and I do go there myself about once every 2 months (have not gone for a McFlurry for my mother in a long time), I dug up the following information for the debate:
1. McDonald's and Quick have the same meat suppliers in France. So much for the inedible mystery meat.
2. McDonald's sprays sugar syrup on the fries, purportedly to make them fry more "golden." (Burger King does the same thing, but BK pulled out of France more than 10 years ago.)
3. The sugar content of a Big Mac is about 30% higher than the equivalent Quick item (the "Giant").
After proving that the attraction to McDonald's was based on the desire for more sugar, I noticed that everybody in the debate suddenly shut up.
But I am a famous "thread killer" on numerous sites.

Despite the rectification, it really doesn't sound like something I'd want to eat. Oh, I don't think the odd MSM hotdog will hurt anyone unless there are food-safety issues such as BSE, but I certainly wouldn't want to make it part of my regular diet. Sadly, it must be very tempting for low-income households with hungry children. A local supermarket has a kilo of "frozen chicken-burgers" advertised for half the price of "real" chicken.
Though not all frozen chicken products are made from that stuff - you have to read the package carefully if you are going to buy any. (Personally, I have no reason to).

I have always noticed, however, that KFC makes a point of saying that everything it sells is made of "real" chicken. That's a minor plus in my book. If one is going to eat unhealthy fried food, it is better for it to be "real" unhealthy fried food rather than "reconstituted" unhealthy fried food. Or at least that's the way I feel about it.

Arh... that all looks so disgusting. I heard that KFC are not allowed to advertise their chicken as being all real chicken because so much has been done to it already? Here in Canada anyway.

interesting how in the beef-related fact they as always show a cow actually standing outdoors, on a meadow with grass on it, and space to move.
if fast food companies, supermarket food, etc. would have to post realistic pictures of animals on their items, a lot of people would turn vegetarian or buy bio-meat...

I was starving the other day and walked into a McDonald's for about the first time in two years. I flipped through all of the screens on the order machine and couldn't find a single thing that appealed to me, so I walked out. I think it's great that just about all of the transactions are done on the order machines now, because if I had just walked up to the counter, I probably would have blurted out something like "Big Mac menu" and it would have been too late.
