Last fall, my best friend, who used to be roommate in NYC, got married in San Francisco. It was a unique, Alice in Wonderland-themed wedding. Now, I didn’t take many photos because I was busy being a bridesmaid and having a blast, but here are a few photos taken by me, my husband, and friends. The ceremony took place in Shakespeare’s Garden in Golden Gate Park. The weather was sunny, warm, and perfect. I loved the sight of the trees dripping with Spanish moss. My friend’s daughter, the flower girl, looked so adorable. She didn’t quite make it down the aisle before getting distracted and zipping off, which gave everyone a laugh. The bride looked beautiful in her delicate, rosette-covered gown and vintage-y net veil. It was a very sweet ceremony. There were some tears, but it was mercifully brief, so I didn’t cry my make-up off. See the brick wall with the brown metal doors? During the rehearsal the day before, one of the groomsmen jokingly dubbed it “the crematorium.” But my friend, with her great eye for detail, hung these pretty paper decorations in front of it and it looked charming. I really like the fact each bridesmaid had an individual style, but our looks complemented each other. Here’s the flower girl snacking, looking like a little princess. A table was set up in the garden with a nice assortment of tea and cookies, which I got to enjoy before being whisked away for photos. My friend rented a school bus to drive the whole wedding party to various locations in the city for photos. It was so much fun with all of us piled in there, listening to music and taking in the San Francisco scene through the windows.

What a beautiful wedding nycgirl! The flower girl running off is adorable, I am sure there were giggles everywhere in the crowd.
The idea of the bus in quite unique and a good one. A nice way to wind down after the stress of the ceremony.
I agree that your separate dress choices is a perfect idea, it does let each attendant feel comfortable in a style they prefer and just having the length and color be the same brings the formality together.
Cheers! Mich

That's looks like a lot more fun than most weddings. Was the flower girl actually a balloon girl? I didn't see any petals. Did you burn the paper decorations in the crematorium after the ceremony? You know what, nycgirl? Every time I see photos of you, I always think "she has really great hair!"

Too lovely and looks like enormous fun!
Yes, your friend has an eye for detail & super taste. I hardly ever like bride dresses, but hers is beautiful. The solution of putting the little girl in white with the black net over it was brilliant. I noticed immediately that the bridesmaids were allowed to choose their own dresses, with a happy & sophisticated result. I love that the officiator also wore a black dress. My only complaint is that I fixated on your shoes in the first photo & they never show up again!
Totally delightful ~~ thanks for showing!

Thanks, everyone! Mich, your lovely thread gave me the idea to put this together! Was the flower girl actually a balloon girl? I didn't see any petals. Very observant, she is indeed the "balloon girl." Actually, none of us had real flowers. I carried a bouquet made of pink and white plastic stars. (Again, wish I took more photos). I still have it and it hasn’t wilted yet! You know what, nycgirl? Every time I see photos of you, I always think "she has really great hair!" Aw, thanks! My only complaint is that I fixated on your shoes in the first photo & they never show up again! Well, they'll have to make a reappearance.

We took photos at iconic San Francisco spots, such as the “Painted Ladies,” a row of picturesque Victorian houses... ... and at the Twin Peaks viewpoint, with the city spread out below us. (I took these photos on an earlier day; the actual wedding day was much prettier). Then it was off to the reception, where we walked through a lush rabbit hole... ... and into a whimsical wonderland. Each table had a different centerpiece in keeping with the theme, such as tea sets or chess pieces, and the table numbers were illustrated with the celebrated John Tenniel drawings from Lewis Carrol’s "Alice" novels. For the handful of children there, my friend made little packages of toys, coloring books, and paper crowns, which I thought was a really sweet touch. The DJ played great music, while the Alice in Wonderland film played on a screen behind the dance floor. This flight of stairs took guests to a little mezzanine... ... that was transformed into a psychedelic mushroom tableau. You could even get a game of flamingo croquet. The view from the mezzanine. With the exception of the chandeliers, the studio where the reception took place was a complete blank slate and my friend added all the decorations herself. The food was delicious, the signature cocktails were festive, and the mini cupcakes were ridiculously addictive. It was a terrific party. The bride and bridesmaids at the photo booth at the end of the night.

For the day after the wedding, my friend reserved a campsite on a little cove across from the Golden Gate Bridge. Family and friends gathered to grill food and relax. The weather was once again warm and sunny, and we enjoyed each other's company and of course, the gorgeous view.

How fun these pictures are! The rabbit hole and play area are both wonderful ideas. I really liked the picture frames being used for the table numbers and the bushes for place cards and I would wanted to have taken the tea pot on the one table home, I have a spot for it!
I think Kerouac, among other photos, will like the ones that show those lovely chairs. They are nice chairs not needing to be covered.
Cheers! Mich

Those shoes ~~ so perfect with that dress! Thank you, NYCG, that was totally satisfying.
The rabbit hole is a touch of brilliance. The bride came up with that, along with all the other note-perfect decorations? And how did they decide on the Alice in Wonderland theme? It's so different & was carried out so well, gloriously, really. What was in the alternating green and black boxes?

Thanks, guys! Yeah, she thought of everything. She's a big "Alice in Wonderland" fan and very creative, and her husband wisely went along with everything. And nobody yelled "off with her head!" ? Yep, I used that line! And "Curiouser and curiouser!" and a bunch of corny jokes my alcohol-befuddled brain thought was funny and clever.

Yes nycgirl, what was in those little boxes on each plate? I assume it was a thank you gift from the bride and groom, but do tell us what was inside them? Cheers! Mich

Oh, forgot to answer the question!
Those are wine bottle stoppers. They were cute, with little animal heads on them.

Oh that is a wonderful gift idea! The whole wedding was so well done and well thought out. Did she have a long engagement to plan this wedding or was is her dream wedding since she was a little girl?
Cheers! Mich

They had a long engagement. She was never the type to plan her wedding since she was little, although she is a great planner. Bixa, I'm sharing this thread with her.

The best thing about online magazines compared to printed ones is that they can display far more photos.
