The post in The Library brought to mind movies and subsequent remakes. The original version of THE RAZOR's EDGE was made in 1946,black&white with GeneTierney and Tyrone Power.I've not seen it but now really want to. I also heard on NPR this a.m. that a remake of TWELVE ANGRY MEN is in the works. Any thoughts on your favorite or least favorite remake.

I quite liked the remake of Rear Window as Disturbia. I thought it was a clever update.

I hear that a remake of "It" is in the works, after the tame mini-series version.

When I first saw Scorceses Cape Fear, I was unaware it was a remake. Not a bad fillm, but go see the original with Gregory Peck and Robert Mitchum (one of his TWO finest screen performances). A SUPERB film, far more scary because of what you don't see, and what is implicated; especially considering when the film was made,.
2 key scenes for me;
1. The daughter getting chased by Mitchum through an empty school
and
2. A Scene on the quay when Peck punches Mitchum, and therefore to all onlookers is quite clearly in the wrong. However, because of how slimy and repulsive Mitchum is, the look of revulsion on the crowds faces when he tries to drum up support is excellent.
Oh, and it's also the only film I've seen where Telly Savalas has hair too...

The original CAPE FEAR is excellent. I always had a penchant for Mitchum,he sure can be menacing, although DeNiro wasn't bad either. I think both movies came off pretty good. Funny 'bout Telly, had forgotten he had hair!

If you liked Mitchum in that, have you seen the original Night Of The Hunter ? (only of 2 films ever directed by Charles Laughton)
FANTASTIC. Ironically, and rather bizarrely, it was remade with Richard Chamberlaine in the Mitchum role. Very odd casting.

Does anyone remember Harvey Keitel in a movie THE BAD LIEUTENANT? Shot on location in NYC?

Oh yeah. I remember seeing his cock in it too. Funny little film; wasn't it made by the same bloke that did Driller Killer, Abel Ferrera ?

I believe so G. Anyway, there's a remake in the can, filmed here in New Orleans with Nicholas Cage. Title:The Bad Lieutenant;Port Of Call New Orleans, surely will have to catch due to locale shots. The original was quite good,I don't know about this one, sounds so hokey.

Oh, Jesus, no. I like some films with Nic Cage in, but these days ALL he seems to make are BAAAAD choices. Anyway, based on the ending of the first, this can ONLY be a vapid rip-off, can't it ?

it's all about the $$$$$$. I cringe when I see the top ten at the box office each week. Do they have that in Europe? It's truly embarassing.

Nicolas Cage? Will he cry again? There should be an Oscar for "Saddest Face".

Nicolas Cage? Will he cry again? There should be an Oscar for "Saddest Face". *snork* Do you see Sally Fields as a contender for female in that category?

Actually, this is a TV remake but the upcoming version of The Three Musketeers looks like it might be interesting.

In any case, it is interesting the Santiago Cabrera has found a more respectable role after his time on Merlin than acting in things like Dexter.
