I am not sure if it can be seen outside of the UK but if you get chance, highly recommended. The first episode was fantastic. It had amazing cinematography and like the " Equator " and the "Tropics" series, is much more than the usual travelogue. In Simon Reeve's words .. “Travelling around the Indian Ocean was an extreme and extraordinary adventure that took me from the horrors of Mogadishu to the beauty of the Maldives. I went to some of the most incredible places on the planet and got my feet onto picture-postcard beaches I previously only imagined in my dreams. But the journey wasn’t just about sunny beaches. I’m really keen for viewers to understand more about the lives of people who live around the Indian Ocean, so the team and I delved into stories of poverty, conflict, drugs, smuggling, and piracy. We filmed amazing sights and dark issues, along with wildlife, history, current affairs and culture. It was fascinating to explore this incredible region, on a journey that showed me there’s so much more to the Indian Ocean than just gorgeous holiday islands. The Indian Ocean is a vast, stunning and tantalising area of our world” - The first episode covered some of the South African and Mozambique coast and the impact of man on sharks and penguins, the link between abalone poaching and the killing of sharks for their fins and organised drug crime, particularly Tik ( crystal meth). Next a brief glimpse into the community of 3,500 people living in the Grand hotel, Beira www.grandehotelthemovie.com/#/trailer/trailer grande hotel Leaving Mozambique, travelling on a huge Italian container ship gave the viewer a glimpse into the efforts made by the industry to avoid the Somalian pirates , some remarkably simple e.g. cardboard covering the portholes at night so that no light is emitted. The episode ended in Zannzibar. At times it felt too superficial but with only 6 episodes it cannot really offer the viewer more than a brief glimpse

I've got to figure out some way to watch this series. As you say, Lugg, it seems like so much more than the usual travelogue.
And yes, Grande Hotel has got that whole Children of Men thing going, but it's all real life!

Glad you enjoy it too Cheery.
Again a programme of highs and lows . The devasting impact of man and deforestation on Madagascar and its unique inhabitants; to the delightful 86-year-old Yorkshire man, Brendon Grimshaw who lives alone on a tiny island in the Seychelles which he bought in the 60s for £8000.He has sucessfully reintroduced the giant tortoise to the island. Now its one of the worlds smallest national parks ( and, in monetary terms, worth much more !)
