What are you doing this weekend?
We have a quiet weekend planned, with some chores to do around the house. I also need to get some groceries into our cupboards before next week.
I hope someone else is doing something more exciting.

I'm going to catch up on some movies. Milk just came out on Wednesday, so that will be one of them.

My weekend is looking like yours - just catching up with myself.
This afternoon is dragging terribly. I am tired and have a headache. All self-inflicted but every second is painfully slow.

I have to work on my jewellery and hopefully go and enjoy the sun on sunday. Nothing too exciting either. We too have to stock up on groceries. I am somehow glad we haven't got anything planned for either tonight or tomorrow night. Hubby and I are both pretty tired. We just want to be couch potatoes and drink a bottle of wine tonight. Once the weather warms up I'll be a lot more energetic !

My weekends are usually impromptu. This morning I celebrated our sunny and 16 degree day by buying two beautiful potted plants, a blue hyacinth, And, a parrot tulip in these colours, My wonderful tenants gave me an unexpected gift, a membership to the Art Gallery of Ontario, with the extra ability to take guests. This is great, since a single visit is 18CDN ! Our gallery was recently redesigned by Frank Gehry and I am very excited about seeing both his design and the collections. The unusual warm weather gives me the chance to clean the basic debris from the garden.

Jazz! What a totally thrilling gift, and SO appropriate for you! I don't know what the occasion was, but congratulations nonetheless. *packs suitcase for Ontario* True blue -- such an elusive color in flowers. That hyacinth looks so brave and springlike. That's a particularly beautiful parrot tulip. It puts me in mind of scenes like this:

Bixa, what is this beautiful painting? It reminds me of the day I spent at the Topkapi Palace in Istanbul. This was the palace of the Ottoman sultans from 1465-1853. It is beautiful and the tile work beyond words. When I finally scan my photos, I will post about it. The Ottoman empire lasted from 1299-1923... 624 years. This is a rich and fascinating period of world history and should be thought about, given the very short history of North America and our sound-byte society.

I'm going to hit some yard sales and then very gingerly work in the garden on my little folding stool (my knee won't allow too much). I am so far behind,I have a gazillion packets of seeds to plant. Sunday, same.

Interesting that you pinpointed the last period of the Ottoman sultanate on that painting!
I'll post about it in the Maritime Museum, as it may interest you & others.
Actually, I looked at the tulips & was reminded of Ingres, but my brain didn't provide me with the name Ingres, rather that of David. So, I googleimage searched "david painting harem" & got all kinds of goodies. Love the random thrill of it all!

Who was that French tart that wore a flower (a camilia?) every day, but changed the colour from white to red for about 5 days a month so that all her lovers would know that she was, erm, unavailable ... ?

Ooo ~~ I don't know. Fictional or historical? Is that who la dame aux camelias was?

It was also where they got a famous opera from, but I'll be buggered if I can remember which one now though. It's a biggy though ...

La dame aux camélias? Alexandre Dumas. The opera is La Traviata, Verdi.

What's happened to all the sig lines ? Are they visible to you ?

I can see Casimira's at Reply #15. Maybe no one else in this thread had one. Go put a sig line in your profile & see if it shows up.
