Well, it's Friday again -- quarter to ten in the morning where I am, but well into the afternoon in other parts of the world.
Nothing to report for weekend plans. I should think about making something nice for my neighbor whose wife is out of town. I have her glass casserole dish in which she presented the lovely carrot cake she made for me. That would be a good way of giving it back.

Deyana paints. We are clearing the house of all the stuff that Mrs Faz kept in case it came in useful (an ancient computer tower, punctured inflatable ring for the swimming pool etc). But we do have friends for dinner tmorrow night: a French couple and an English couple. Excellent because I can clear the freezer of 6 rabbit legs/thighs.

My former boss dropped into the office. He is now Vice-President Finance, so I asked him "Have you brought our golden cheques?" We keep dreaming of these since the company has already bought the departure of more than 5000 employees with big payouts.
He winced and said that he had borrowed a billion dollars for this operation and had already spent 2.4 billion dollars. No golden cheque for me, I guess.

(I must add that I had never met anyone who had borrowed a billion dollars before, but these are strange times.)

This Friday afternoon I did a tour of the Westgate Arch in Winchester and took many pictures so that I can continue my thread; I then went to the library; lugged my laptop to the opticians so that I could test out different contact lenses....and tomorrow I'll be going to a New Forest Mela festival that will celebrate the diverse occupations and relaxations of those who live in the area....I will listen to Bagrah music, Jamaican tin drums (free lessons), Bollywood performers, a Chinese dragon, African drummers, gypsy jazz...lots of ethnic stall food... and there I was thinking that the New Forest would only offer walks, charcoal burning and hazel coppicing I foresee a great Photo Opportunity.... Possibly London for Sunday lunch. Yum.

Spindrift, I so much admire the way you always stay abreast of whatever interesting thing is going on in your area, and that you actually attend those things.

I envy your energy SD! I will continue to work in the garden and try to get it to a manageable state so that when I go out of town next month I won't return to the jungle I did last year at the same time. I essentially will be wielding a machete for the whole weekend and start a new job Monday a.m. I will go out to dinner with friends from out of town Saturday night.

Bixa! I am only dragged to these things because a friend of mine insists I go with him. I would never do it on my own steam.
Casi - I don't have much energy really. Now and then I stir myself into action.

The heat is temporarily gone from Paris -- what a relief.
So I have started planning a 3-day trip to a hot and sweaty place -- Bangkok.

Well, we went shopping and now I 'm going to start putting dinner for tomorrow together. I have the menu set, and this afternoon I am going to put the dining room table together. When I get it done, I will take a picture and post.

Oh ~~ good for you, Kerouac! Every time you mention southeast Asia in any context, it's obvious you are yearning to be there.

Hope to finish up some jobs, begin prep work for a larger project that I will doing most of the month of October,in order to rustle up more funds to pay the bills and get out of town. This weekend is the 4 year anniversary of Katrina and there are all kinds of events around town commemorating. Already, last p.m. lots of helicopters flying about(drab olive, not black),and a ton of media people. Gratefully,my work confines me to my immediate neighborhood. Saturday night is our neighborhood Mid Summer Mardi Gras celebration, will be lots of crazies running about. Will go for some of it and exit home after I've had enough.

Nothing much happening here. My daughter came down from London as her car needed to be collected from a garage near Andover...so this morning I drove her there, passing through the village of Stockbridge with the famous butcher's shop. I then bought a large selection of tulip bulbs for autumn planting. Perhaps some gardening this afternoon and a visit to the monastery tomorrow. Son with me for a couple of days.

Casimira, have you discussed your katrina impressions anywhere on this board? I'd most interested if so.
Spindrift, I'm glad you mentioned tulips. Ours could use replenishing. By mid-October I hope the mosquitoes will have died down enough to make gardening fun again. As it is I have time to pick a few tomatoes and peppers and pull a couple of weeds before they find me.
We've been invited to a camping party overnight at the country place of some friends, 1.5 hr drive south. Some of the teenagers will be going off to college for the first time soon, and our oldest will be going back. I'll probably sleep in their cushy house instead of roughing it in the woods with giggling and cicadas in the background.

When are you planning for, K2? Hard to say. Some unexpected moment in September. Am juggling with hopefully empty flights at the moment, but there are so many other issues, I might jump on a plane with 48 hours notice.
