I really must confess that I absolutely cannot imagine England (or the UK or whatever) ever becoming a republic. Everything that I have ever known or experienced with the English screams the opposite. If ever the Republic of Scotland ever comes into being, I might reconsider my conception (but then again, I suppose the rest of the UK would do so as well).
This makes me wonder about Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Belgium and the Netherlands -- those are other places that I can't imagine changing, whereas Spain just seems to me to be a republic waiting to happen, same as Greece used to be.

I think that even if / when Scotland devolves it is unlikely to be known as the Republic of Scotland and will retain it's links with the royal family. My son took this nice pic on his i phone. The flower bed is in front of the only remaining part of Hereford castle moat .

ahh ~~ missed seeing this! Great pic of something so right for the occasion. It also looks like something that might have been done for the 1st Elizabeth.
