My family came over for Sunday casual lunch. I made an enormous platter of mixed salad with Cremazola. It is a blue cheese very similar to Roquefort. To go with the salad was bacon and cheese stuffed baked potatoes, ciabatta rolls, and the star of the lunch was sliced medium rare sirloin and rump steak done on the BBQ, and let cool to room temp. Lots of juicy merlot to wash it all down!

Ooooooo! It's like Mexican stuff, except SEAsian! There are some similarities, but the Yunnan cucumber salad uses fresh ginger and I added a bit of SEA Fish sauce. I made it again a day or so later, but reduced the picante elements. And that time, I remembered to drain off the salty cucumber water.

went to the office today and out for lunch with some colleagues, went to a burrito place - mine had quinoa instead of rice, which actually works quite well, too, i thought ...

Pollo al pastor, estilo Patzcuarense. That's chicken roasted on a vertical wooden stake. Wednesday is bonus day, a half extra chicken with purchase of a regular.

Having my "lunch" right now. It's the first thing I've eaten today: carrot/ginger pancakes with sunflower seeds and cranberries. I've put a little butter on top, just because, but they're very nice as-is. Maybe I should go get a piece of cheese for some protein.

Thai instant noodle soup to which I added chopped celery, flat parsley, fried onion, sesame oil, soy sauce and Cayenne pepper. The only time I ever ate it with just what is in the package was at work.

Wow, those pancakes sound divine and ever so inspiring Bixa.
Hmmmm…..will take that into account when next time I venture into the pancake realm.
I had to report for jury duty this morning. Afterwards T. and I ventured to the French Quarter and we went to The Napoleon House and shared a Muffalata and an avocado stuffed with Shrimp Remoulade. I was very favorably impressed. The ambience of the courtyard with it's ancient near crumbling walls remains as charming as ever. There is a gentleman who has worked there forever and he came over to the table and remembered me from days of when I used to go there quite frequently. It made me feel good and want to spend more time going down there and dine more often or just simply sit with the paper and enjoy a Pimm's Cup, one of their specialties and one of the very few gin cocktails that I enjoy, not ever really being a fan of gin as many times as I have tried. I especially loathe tonic water.

They would probably have been even nicer as waffles, which are somehow more fun than pancakes.
You don't like tonic water?! I like it even when it doesn't have gin in it -- so nice & bitter.

I learned how to make pancakes with faces on them and would like to be able to think of an occasion to use this new skill.

You could use ratatouille to make the hair or the beard for your pancake faces!
