I had a "super salad" today - rocket leaves, roasted pine nuts and roasted squash and some bellpeppers (they were cooked) etc... balsamic dressing.

Newly made Minestra di Leftovers, plus leftover Sopa de Albóndigas. Very compatible elements of conFusion Cuisine. Pesto. Warmed bolillos. Wine, probably red. Hey! I have some Montepulciano, ought to marry well with the soup. Serious nap.
Later... I didn't get that nap until after 4 p.m. as we had our first experience with house cleaning by ladies from down our street. ¡Fantástica! It was worth the delay in our regular schedule habit stream.

Lunch was two of these -- 10 pesos apiece from the church fair in front of the house. The tostadas are 5" across & there are so many shrimp, they don't all show up in the pic. They were really good!

I cooked some noodles for lunch that I then sautéed with some defrosted oxtail. That was the last of the oxtail, so I'll have to buy some more before long for the upcoming colder weather.

Yummy-beautiful fixin's there, Htmb!
I'm making soup -- tomato/onion/poblano/garlic base with thyme & marjoram. It's simmering away right now, until the chayote & carrots in it are cooked. I've chopped up lots of fresh basil & fennel leaves to sprinkle on top.

I am trying to ensure I have a quickly cooked lunch from now on - so I can get back into studying mode efficiently. At the moment, I tend to cook the day before for my lunch... unless I have left over but that is a very rare occurence in this house. so... today was left over pasta in rich tomato sauce from last night and tomorrow will be a chilli practically sin carne. but with lots of grated pure cocoa.

September 18, 2012: We were going to have Carbonnades a la Flamande (already made), with tagliarini and a Caesar Salad, but our guest called to say he was sick. So we are reverting to plan B, salmon fillets al cilantrillo, Caesar Salad. an as a starter, olive oil croutons (yes, I know it echoes the C.S.); with soft goat cheese, toasted walnuts, thinly sliced jamón serrano and optional anchovies. To accompany the salmon, we'll have already cooked but naked spaghetti. Pesto sauce is ready and willing, and we have some peperonata begging us to be eaten. Dessert? If the knead arises, there are a few of the ultra lush, cream cheese frosted cinnamon rolls I made early this morning. Also, extra yummy (HE SAID "YUMMY!!) Dry white wine is now chilling, and I'm going to take a nap until Sra. Cuevas comes home. EDIT: The salmon was very good, and not too hard to prepare. But the Caesar Salad was a major PITA. Tomorrow, we are meeting friends for a lavish feast of Paella, at a country hotel on the shores of Lake Pátzcuaro. A full report, with photos, will be forthcoming. I'm already chilling 6 bottles of different white wines.

I had a portion of dal with some rice. I had cooked the dal on Sunday, froze half of it for another week and re-heated the other half for lunch, adding the rice and water to the dal. Ah... looking up which legume I used, I realise it wasn't a dal but a lentil curry as I used whole urid lentils. the ones that are black when dry and a magnificent green when rehydrated.

In Morelia today, and close to the Cuban restaurant, "La Plazuela del Bosque".
We were joined by a friend. We ordered mojitos, our first ever. They were tasty but sneaky.
Three apps: Tamal Cubano; Buñuelos de Bacalao and two orders of Papas Rellenas de Picadillo. Tamal, so-so; Buñuelos good; Papas Rellenas extra extra good.
Then we ordered our main courses.
Amiga had Ropa Vieja, shredded beef in a tangy tomato sauce; Sra. Cuevas had Lomo de Cerdo a la Criolla (in bitter orange sauce); and I had Vaca Frita, similar to Ropa Vieja but no tomato.
All the apps came with a mini let-tom salad. All the mains came with Moros y Cristianos (black beans and rice).
Home baked yeast rolls, but not very good, IMO. Also 5 salsas, ranging from chimichurrí to an Habanera salsa.
Over all, a very pleasant meal.
No pics except from cel phone. Maybe later.

Right now, a light snack to tide me over until lunch: buttered challah, black radish salad, pickled herring in cream sauce with onions and grated apple, home made kosher style dill pickle. Iced vodka.
Later... looks like roast turkey sandwiches (cold) with coleslaw.

Today I had eggs fried in salted butter from Noirmoutier, and it made all the difference in the world.

Kerouac, would you liken the butter from the l'Ile de Noirmoutier to that of l'Ile de Re`? I haven't really looked up all the information but noticed they do have a Hotel Fleur de Sel so there must be salt pans there.

I think all of these butters are similar, but I very rarely buy salted butter, so I am not an expert.

I had a ramen noodle soup for lunch BUT instead of water, I had saved the broth from boiling cabbage and carrots last night -- it turned out to be an excellent idea.

October 6, 2012: celery "hearts" from Costco that came with a surprise: 6 or so envelopes of a creamy peppercorn dressing. It's pretty bad, but with the addition of crumbled blue cheese, some Tabasco sauce and a cerveza to drink, it's o.k. Some thin crackers.
Dessert is a couple of intense chocolate buttery brownies.

Looks like frozen spinach and cheese ravioli "bake" that I concocted, some roasted beets in a red wine vinegar sauce, some cheap German bubbly.
Much baking this a.m. Giving away the extras to neighbors.

Oeuf mayonnaise for lunch -- just hard boiled eggs and mayonnaise, an old French standby which has fallen out of favour.
