Grim lunch: I had a can of tuna. It's palatable without the metallic taste of the can. ;D I forgot to mention what I had for lunch. Homemade machaca (really, cecina, or beef jerky, if you will; sharp cheddar cheese, carrot cake, Canadian rye whiskey. Nap.

"Philly" Cheese Steak sandwiches, (this sliced beef sautéed with slivered onions and peppers, topped with provolone cheese, on Mexican telera rolls.) French style potato salad, fat free coleslaw. Beer or wine. Photo from the Web. I wasn't planning on making them that big. And where's the cheese? Here's another photo, borrowed from the Web, with cheese.

Wilson's "Black Forest" Ham on fresh telera roll, mayo, homemade apricot chamoy sauce, fat free cole slaw on the sandwich, bread and butter pickles on the side. Earlier, I had a tepache aperitif that made me woozy. Now I'm sticking with water.

I grilled some white sausages from Luxembourg (but anybody from northern Lorraine, Alsace, the Saar, or the Belgian province of Luxembourg would probably claim them as their own) and put them in baguette sandwiches with a lot of mustard. This was comfort food for me as a child, when I would go with my grandparents for a day's shopping in Metz.

A bit late, but two days ago, on the highway from Morelia to Pátzcuaro, we stopped at Mariscos La Güera Campestre for lunch. I had the most elaborate Ensalada de Mariscos I'd ever been serve in this restaurant. Ensalada de Mariscos: Included; shrimp, callos de hacha, caracol, pata de mula, cooked vegetables, raw salad vegetables, peeled orange segments, oh; I missed pulpos. This was the "Mediana" size, $98 pesos. I couldn't finish it at one meal.I had the second half for lunch yesterday.

February 14, 2013: lunch was light: a mixed salad of organic greens, arugula and cherry tomatoes, over a bit of sauceless spaghetti, and two Spanish sardines on top. Dressing was a squeeze of fresh lemon juice and a little white balsamic vinegar.

A Coctel Grande de Camarones, at Mariscos La Güera in Pátzcuaro. A large limonada with it. Didn't have camera along, so... ...here's an earlier photo. (This one has pulpos, also.)

March 2, 2013: A really simple and easy lunch: ham and turkey breast tortas with fat free cole slaw, and a little near instant potato salad made by mixing some grain mustard with some mayo, and tossing in a few capers. The little potatoes were already cooked and in the fridge. Beverage: Cerveza Victoria. It's nice to take it easy from cooking once in a while.

Oh, I used to know that airport quite well. However, I have only eaten in an airport perhaps 5 times in my life. I prefer to go hungry.

March 4, 2013: leftover meatballs and meat loaf, chard, plus we are just now sampling the Verduras en Escabeche that I pickled last week. (Sort of Mexican Giardiniera; in fact, pretty close, just a bit spicier.)
EDIT: Also, some "Moroccan" Eggplant Salad, a sort of spicy ratatouille. Very good. Most of this we hop to give to friends.

Oh, I used to know that airport quite well. However, I have only eaten in an airport perhaps 5 times in my life. I prefer to go hungry. Typically, I prefer to go hungry too, but this is all in my "relax more while flying" plan. I actually never eat airplane food and try to avoid drinking anything that wasn't sealed such as wine or bottled water that I buy in the airport. I have probably mentioned before that I've been in two very distressing flying situations (in the 80's and 90's), and I have hated flying ever since. I actually didn't fly anywhere for about seven years. I am getting better at relaxing while flying and, since I felt hungry and had a 2 1/2 hour layover, I went to an airport Chili's and had what I thought might sit well on my stomach. Another milestone successfully reached.

A bowl of Barbacoa de Borrego a la Penca, hot tortillas, and a half liter of orange juice, at Javier y Lety's open air stand, across from Costco in Morelia. We got there just in time, before their approximately 1 p.m. closing time. Archive photo.

Looks pretty good, as always!
I just had a can of spinach from the back of the cupboard that was dated 2004. I think it improved with age, because it was delicious. Or maybe that was the chopped garlic and butter I added.

Tired today, so lunch was simple: sautéed pounded pork loin cutlets, with sweet peppers, onion and some apricot chamoy; the ubiquitous green chard; basmati rice; and the ven more überbiquitous fat free coleslaw.

March 8, 2013: Salmon-Mushroom Noodle Casserole, made with fresh mushrooms and home made cream sauce, not condensed soup. A "Gazpacho" Salad, of diced tomatoes, onions, crisp cucumbers, sweet pepper and avocado, in a lemony olive oil dressing, with a touch of cumin. Shots of Smirnoff Vodka. Nap.

Thank you htmb! The white pieces are my china and the colored ones were left to me by my grandmother (Nana) when she passed away. When my younger sister and I were little girls, she and my Great Auntie took us for Afternoon Tea at Eaton's. An excursion I hope to never forget, our pretty dresses, little white gloves that she let us each borrow, the big adventure getting onto the city bus to take us down town, the escalator ride, sitting up straight and keeping quiet wanting to make them proud by being well mannered little ladies...
