The Romney Zombie Apocalypse!

I tried to take advantage of early voting today, but there was a parking gridlock outside the public library where early voting was taking place. I could have parked about a mile away and walked to the library, but the lines were so long I guessed the wait to vote would also be a long one. I'm going to try tomorrow during the football game when many residents might be otherwise occupied. If that doesn't work I will have to wait for election day and just deal with the crowds.

Wake me when it's over. Luckily, I'm working this evening so have an excuse to wait until midnight to turn on the radio. Please not another Supreme Court election in December. Oh please.
Most personally I'm sweating my brother's campaign in a solidly Republican corner of the state. He was appointed county assessor by the governor two years ago when his predecessor was sent to prison. Totally non political position, he's done an excellent job, and the newspapers have run several letters from prominent people on both sides supporting him. I went down there, overcame a lifelong dislike of knocking on strangers' doors to campaign, and people told me he's the only Democrat they would vote for. But there are the thousands who would never vote for a godless Democrat no matter what.

Well, thank heavens for that! I know I'm not directly concerned but after the Americans voted in Bush for a second term in 2004, I really wondered whether they would elect Romney.

Well, lest people think I'm stereotyping, this is what everyone I know greeted each other with this a.m. from the street cleaner at 7 a.m. while out walking my dog, to my friend in Miami who called me at 5 a.m. to tell me her baby sister was at Obama's headquarters last p.m. to hear his speech. It says it all....

I see that Puerto Rico voted for statehood. I wonder what the House of Representatives will think of that, since they would have to validate it.

The youtube clip of Karl Rove disputing Fox, yes Fox News' calling Ohio for Obama is somewhat amusing. The newswoman takes the cameramen around the corner and down a hallway to ask their calling-things people if they stood behind that prediction. Presumably the guys had time to put jackets and ties on to increase credibility.
I didn't watch any TV that night, but left work early and headed for the hotel where Claire McCaskill had just finished her victory speech (or, as Jon Stewart said, had "legitimately raped" Todd Akin) and Obama had been projected as winning. That ballroom was packed with one hugging each other bunch of Democrats.

The sooner Rove waddles off into the political sunset, the happier I'll be.

That ballroom was packed with one hugging each other bunch of Democrats. *SNORK!* And many of those hugging Democrats were women. In the NYTimes this morning, there's a story about how the Republicans are worried about how they appear to women voters. And that's about it -- how they appear, not how they are. There doesn't seem to be any big push to change that. Re: Rove ~~ This article from The Telegraph (UK) charitably assigns the blame for ruining the Republican party to Fox News, rather than to the voters who are willingly in thrall to it. And lest you think that doesn't belong in a thread entitled "American elections can be funny", check out this quote from the article: ... anchor Megyn Kelly was dispatched to confront her network’s own decision desk. The startled analysts, who bore the excited but nervous demeanour of elves being visited by their Snow Queen ...And if you were worried about poor Karl possibly being out of work now, fear not, as CBS news assures us that: Far from an embarrassment, the incident proved Rove's value to the network as more than an analyst, said Michael Clemente, Fox News Channel executive vice president of news editorial.

I propose "more than an analyst, but less than a moral human being"
Love this line, too, from bixa's Telegraph link: "To describe Fox as a polarising broadcaster would be to give understatement a manly bear-hug."

I saw the reports about the Romney "president elect" site that they forgot to take down for a few hours. The screen shots are quite edifying.

What's most appalling to me is the money spent by both parties in this election. One can degrade Rove, and, I'm not in disagreement, but, even the Hollywood people etc. who funded Obama, it's perverse, and oh so wrong..... There has to be reform all the way around in the money spent/funded in these elections. You can call it a win, victory for "the people", but, it's a win for big business.

Casi, didn't the Supreme Court make a decision a few years ago that actually increased the possibility of campaign spending?
I agree that the amounts spent are obscene and also think the campaign is much too long. Two years of primaries, slanging matches, etc. Make it 3 months every 4 years and get it over with.
