All of you who saw last year's blessing of the animals undoubtedly have been absolutely panting for August 31, the feast of San Ramón Nonato, to come around again. This year my two dogs, Darla and Harley, attended, along with rescue dog Buddy, who is looking for a home. Charlie very kindly went along to help wrangle the woofers. Things got off to a very late start this year, possibly due to the overcast day. Oh well, I was there to take pictures & take pictures I did. And this is not bragging, just facts: Darla was the belle of the ball, perhaps the most photographed doggy there. So, it is with the neurotic pride of a beauty pageant mom that I kick off with pics of my little star ~~ Waiting, waiting A handsome lad who didn't feel the need for fancy duds ~Lots of fluffy friends ~

Poor little Harley got short shrift with the pictures. He looked fabulous as a dinosaur, even after one of his head plates fell off. She's going after the well-dressed guy. Good taste! They say pets and their people start to look alike ~It was an intense experience for some ~and just ho-hum for others ~

The afternoon wore on. The priest came out & said some words, then went back inside and said whatever is much longer than a solemn high Mass. It started to rain.We all stuck it out. When the priest finally came back out (& spoke at length) we were all so soaked that we didn't feel the holy water hitting us. Still, many people seemed to be enjoying themselves, although by this time the animals were bored & often shivering.Doggy doctor ~What fools these humans be! I'd be most remiss if I didn't include this delightful coverage of the event in the excellent blog, View from Casita Colibri: casitacolibri.wordpress.com/2012/09/02/raining-cats-and-dogs/

How fun Bixa! Darla certainly had on a pretty frock! So many intersting outfits. I would enjoy this day, rain or sunshine.
Cheers!

I dunno. Darla looks like the traditional "toothache" image. Your photos make it appear that there are no big dogs in Mexico. Or do big dogs just not put up with this sort of thing?

Darla is so cute, as always. That costume-less dog in #5 is a beauty. What a pretty coat. The doggy doctor is adorable (and apparently very easygoing; most dogs would tear that mask away in a second).
No armadillos or other strange pets this year?
Glad to see everyone had fun, despite the rain. Thanks for another glimpse of local color.
