just so a new thread is started...
because we spoke in the pet peeve thread about that we need an anyport party at some point... though it is yet unclear if that means a virtual party, or a real gathering... or a mixture of both...
btw, has there been any anyport gathering yet? (i am in too many forums, so i forget which forum had one, and which didn't...)

An Anyport party to celebrate the upcoming birth of baby would be fun, Rikita. Though I'd love to attend a real gathering, for me it will need to be virtual. For all you AnyPort veterans out there, has there ever been a "party" held on AnyPort?
Rikita, do you know if you are having a boy or a girl?

No, there has never been an Anyport party. Some other sites have done them, but here we generally just meet up one by one depending on who is in the correct city on the correct continent at the right time.
Strangely enough, I have heard of a number of cases where real life group meetings have destroyed quite a few internet friendships.

yeah i suppose that can happen - but on the other hand, there are people that i first knew from online and would now call real life friends - or more, as i met mr. r. on an internet forum...
okay, a virtual party then - how exactly is that done? i never participated in one...
yeah, it is a girl...

Well, basically people decide when they can all be online at the same time and a special board is opened for chat. But technology has moved on so much now that it has become kind of ridiculous to do it on this type of board when there are so many places that already have live chat features -- just need to find which one, but I am no expert on this since I have not ever used a chat feature on the internet after having been addicted to it on the Minitel (because it was all so new and exciting).

Hmmmmm. Chatting could get a bit complicated. I was thinking something along the line of creating a new thread and, beginning at a certain time period, anyone interested could post a "virtual baby gift" of sorts.

I'm sure there could even be real gifts if rikita gives out her address by PM. Riki? What do you think?

That would be nice, too, though my PM doesn't seem to be working at the moment.

I would love to participate and think it would be wonderful to welcome a new baby girl with gifts from all over the world! Rikita if you want to set up a box number at a postal station or send us PM's of an address I think it would be fun for us to participate in welcoming your first baby girl! And it would be fun to watch you open them on-line all together.

just want to make say though that this isn't about me trying to get gifts... just wanting to have some fun, and a party (virtual or not) sounds like fun... i am fine giving my address via pm if someone wants to send a post card or similar - but this isn't about trying to get things...

We understand, but we might be feeling generous, too. Send me your address by PM, rikita, and I might give it out as a bonus gift to the members when they are sending me the money for the Anyport membership cards. Actually, I always thought that the virtual parties on Second Life were fun since people can wander around, change clothes, dance, chat live and avoid people they don't want to see -- but SL is much too complicated for anybody who is not already familiar with the system.

ah, i want a membership card too! as a vip anyport member!
i sometimes thought second life sounded interesting, but i never looked into it, because i am a bit afraid it might be one of those things i could really get addicted to, if i am not careful...

Yeah, I'm not personally interested in Second Life as I already work on my computer all day, so it is far too easy to make the internet your second life whenever there is a lull in work, especially in the wintertime when outdoors appeals far less.
Rikita, have you chosen a name yet?

yeah, actually we had a name for a long time... still had a bit of discussions on the second name, but i think now we agreed on that too... though interestingly, mr. r. already sometimes refers to her by name, while i feel weird doing so until she is actually born...

for the party you mean? that might work too - though the biggest group i ever skyped with were three people, and even there it was difficult because as soon as two spoke at the same time it was difficult to understand...
