Thank you again, bixa. The birds of Cedar Key were certainly numerous, and many were eager subjects. Pelicans are such hams.
I love being on the water for that very reason, too. The view is constantly changing, even if you stay in the same spot. The wind, weather, clouds, time of day, time of year, etc, are all variables that can make for change.
Kerouac, Aripeka, combined with Homosassa, sounds like it may be worth a visit. Thank you for the information. Interesting that it started out in Hernando County and ended up later in Pasco. It's funny that I grew up in Hillsborough County and had never heard of it.

Fabulous thread HTMB!!! So reminiscent of NOLA particularly in the first sequence, the architecture with it's Carri bean influence. Haven't seen an osprey in years although my husband sees them occasionally down the coast further. The pelicans and other water fowl are very familiar to here. Thanks so much for this!! ( re: the cigar boxes, I have a collection of myself as does my brother....hoarding....Shhhhhhh!!! )

Thank you very much, casimira. Funny about the cigar boxes We see osprey, as well as sandhill cranes, in north central Florida quite a lot in the winter time. I hope to get some shots of their nests for another thread idea. It's still a little too early for them right now. Interesting you don't see a lot of osprey in the NOLA area. I'm surprised.

It's unlikely to see osprey on the river, more along the Gulf shoreline which NOLA is not far from but not close enough. My husband's work takes him down to the coast closer to where they would nest and breed. He often sees Bald Eagles as well.

Oh, Htmb ~~ I was saying "ahhh!" at each one of this last group of pictures. That changed to a pure sigh of contentment upon seeing the last one, which is as beautiful and tranquil as anything could be.
Fabulous thread. Thanks so much for taking us to this paradise.

But the fish is chasing the pelican! I enlarged the shot and looked at it, as well as the photo taken just beforehand. The pelican is definitely flying towards the fish. I had been taking several photos of the spot in succession hoping to catch a mullet in mid-air, while also photographing birds flying from one sandbar to the other. I just got lucky with the photo.

What a beautiful thread! htmb. I love those wonderful birds, the sunrises and sunsets, and that cute baby bonnethead shark. Cedar Key looks like a great place.

FFA Helping Food Pantry in Cedar Key Published December 20th, 2012 WCJB TV20 CEDAR KEY - With the dramatic drop in the clam harvest to the weeks - long loss of the city's water supply, people in Cedar Key have had a lot to cope with, and some of them don't know where their next meal is coming from because of it. Landing at Cedar Key
This is a fun video to watch. As the pilot flies in for a landing at the tiny Cedar Key airport you have an aerial view of the islands that make up Cedar Key, fly over the main Dock Street area, and get a sense of how low the islands are and their proximity to the mainland.

Thanks very much htmb. It gives a better idea of what happens than when you are cooped up in a big bus with x00 other people. At least you get to see outside so you know when to start panicking. I was curious to know what type of spamcan that was, but YouTube had the answer, a home built special, which takes a lot of dedication and cash in equal amounts.

It's great to see all of these warm looking photos, but I am not fooled. For more than a decade, I visited my parents in Florida in the middle of the winter. It was nearly always around 25° where they lived, but whenever I went in January or February, there would be a sudden cold snap and it would be about 10° -- or sometimes 2° -- while in Paris it would be maybe 15°.

You're pretty clever, Kerouac. What you are looking at in the last several photos is a cold front moving south east. Twenty-five mile per hour winds (with temperatures dipping down to 28 degrees F in the early morning hours) made for an interesting bike ride around the town.

Despite the weather that looks like the perfect place to unwind if you are having a stressful time. Good for you for doing just that and also entertaining, and informing us at the same time. Those flocks of gulls must drive you crazy though. But the other birds are marvellous, I love the way the pelicans stroll about as if they own the place.

I love all of the flocks that can be seen in the photographs of #47, even if they are gulls. The one photo showing about 5 different flocks in the distance is spectacular.
